GREENCASTLE COMMON COUNCIL
REGULAR SESSION
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1998 7:00 P.M. PUTNAM COUNTY LIBRARY
The Greencastle Common Council met in Regular Session, Tuesday, December 8, 1998, 7:00
p.m. at the Putnam County Library. Mayor Michael called the meeting to Order. On the Roll
Call, the following were found to be present: Councilor Roach, Councilor Hammer, Councilor
Green, Councilor Baynard and Councilor Masten. Also present were: City Attorney Trudy
Selvia and City Engineer Ron Smith.
Public Petitions and Comments
There were no public petitions or comments.
Department Reports
® Fire Chief O'Hair stated he will be changing the format of his report to include mutual aid to other
departments along with additional information. Councilor Hammer asked how many false alarms
calls have come in from DePauw. Chief O'Hair stated there have not been as many this year.
Councilor Baynard stated that in 1998 to date the department has responded to 491 runs -
significantly higher than last year, can you tell us why. More departments are using us for help -
Operation Life, etc. Car wrecks have been up and we are called to help with those. To date the
department has responded to 503 runs.
Police Chief Hendrich stated he has had a very hectic month. The Department is working with
Area 30 regarding in service training. Fire and Police are both working to update emergency plans
with the schools. Six officers are working to wrap up burglaries occurring in the City with three
arrests being made. The individuals involved in these burglaries are also involved in gang and drug
activity which makes these cases more intense. Councilor Roach asked about the lease program for
cars in 1999 and if by doing the lease program if this would allow for take home vehicles. Chief
Hendrich stated he has checked into lease program and found we can lease 4 police cruisers fully
equipped for $21,000.00. In reviewing maintenance of fleet, Chief Hendrich continued, there are
some cars that he is concerned about and there are issues regarding the lease program that still
need to be clarified Councilor Roach asked that the lease program be an agenda item for the
January 1999 meeting.
Street Commissioner stated his department is moving along with leaf and brush pick up.
® Park Director Staton reported there are 3 8 teams in the Basketball Program which started practice
