The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Cann, Blumenthal, Logan, Lovell and Righton. The minutes of the meetings of November 25th:and December 6th were read and adopted. The Mayor was authorized to purchase two,one to one and one -half ' ton trucks, with dual wheels, stake body and cab and also to turn in as part payment the two old trucks now owned by the Town. A petition was read from Mr. W.H.Haar, Manager of Tybrisa Pavilion requesting the town to discontinue charging for theruse of the parking areas during the winter monthhs. The regular meeting of Council was head to -day at 4:00 p. m. and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Sharpley, Blumenthal, Cann, Lovell and Righton, and Town Attorney Mclntire. The minutes of the meeting of January 3rd, 1936 were read and adopted. A rough draft of the proposed contract between the Tybee Water Works and the Town for furnishing water in connection with the Beach Protection Work was referred to a committee consisting of Councilmen Logan and Sharpley to handle with the Tybee Water- orks. Bids were received for two new trucks with cab and stake body, dual wheels on rear, 30 x 5 8 -ply tires all around, wheel base 157 to 162 inches,-from the following: J. C. Lewis Motor Co. $ 1,580.00 Net. Harmon Chevolet Co. 1 =58.00 Georgia Motors Co. 1,635.68 McGowan Motors 1,500.00 *' 191 After some discussion it was decided to ask for new bids on a basis of 6Oa x 20 0 -ply tires, the clerk was instructed to send out written specifications for new bids to be received and open- ed in the Town Office, 'Wednesday, February 12th at noon, Council- men Logan was appointed a committee of one to pass on the bids presented on this date with authority to purchase. The following Ordinance was Oased upon its first reading and upon unanimous consent of council was paced on its second read- ing and on motion made and seconded was adopted. An' ordinance to be entitled "An ordinance to create the office. of Superintendent of Construction of Savannah, Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia: to provide for the appointment of such Superintendent; to define his duties; to provide for his selection and term of office and compensation and for other purposes`. SECTIO 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of Sayan ah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in regular meeting assembled and i is hereby ordained by authority of the same, that the office of Superintendent of construction of Savannah Beach, Tybee island, Georgia, is hereby created. SECTION 2. - Be it further ordained that the Superintendent of construction shall be selected by the Mayor of said Municipality at the meeting next succeeding the passage of this ordinance by and with the consent and approval of the Councilmen and shall hold office, as such Superintendent at the will of the Mayor of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia. SECTION 3. - Be it further ordained by the authority aforesaid that said Superintendent shall be paid such monthly sum and from month to month throughout his continuance in office, as shall be fixed at the time of his appointment and that said monthly sum shall be in full compensation for any and all,service, which the said Superintendent may be, from time to time, called on to do by the Mayor of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia. SECTION 4. - Be it further ordained by the authority aforesaid that said Superintendent shall do and perform such work and shall supervise such construction as, from time to time, May be designated by the Mayor of said Municipality, but not in conflict with the duties of Building Inspector of said Town, and that particularly and especially, he shall superintend and supervise all of the work to be performed by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in connection with the work now being done by the Works Progress Administration of the United States Government in its effort to prevent beach erosion within the corporate of said Town. SECTION 5. - Be it further ordained by the authority aforesaid that all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. 192 • It was moved: and seconded and passed that Mr. W. T. Bryan be appointed Superintendent of Construction at a salary of $162.00 per month for the duration of the Beach Protection Work being done in connection with the Works Progress Adminstration, and iat Mr. H. A 7, 11-4--ZA-ANNINAle erk of ouncil Savann h Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. March Oth, 1936. The regular meeting of Council was held today at 4 :00 p. m. and was attended by Councilman J. T. Cann, Chairman of Council, who presided, and Councilmen Logan, Righton, Blumenthal, Lovell, and Town Attorney McIntire. In connection with the Beach P rotection Mork it is necessary that an agreement be gotten from several property owners at the South end of the Island on whose property it is proposed to erect one of the groins, relieving the To and U. S. Government from any liability. The Town Attorney was instructed to draw up a form of agreement necessary so that necessary signatures could be gotten. The proposed contract between the Tybee Water Works and the Town relative to furnishing water for the use on Beach Protection was discussed and the Mayor was authorized to approve same after it was finally gotten into form by the Town Attorney. The mule shed at the Convict Camp was reported to be in very bad condition. The matter was referred to the Mayor and the Pin;tbt o.Ato investigate with authority to act. The Town Attorney informed Council that a suit has been instituted in Court by Mr. Jacob Gazan as Attorney for Carroll Hymes, who contends that her feet were seriously burned last July by walking tinto the asphalt that was being laid on the new parkway. After some discussion it was decided to appoint a committee consisting of the Mayor, Councilman Righton and Mr. McIntire, to handle the matter and with power to adjust the matter if possiple to the best interest of the Town. Councilman Sharpley suggested that if possible some effort should be made to get a government grant with a view to putting in sanitary drainage for the whole Island. Dr. Righton was appointed as a committee of one to get in touch with the U. S. Public Health Service to ascertain what the requirements would be. 1
