After researching various pickup trucks that qualified as low emission through the Air
Quality Management District (AQMD), staff developed Bid Specifications for the
purchase of one 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid pickup truck. Because AQMD
funds are proposed to be used for the purchase of the vehicle , it must comply with their
vehicle requirements .
The Notice Inviting Bids was published in the Pasadena Star News on April 6, 2012. In
addition to the published bid notice, staff mailed bid packets to ten local Chevrolet
dealers in the San Gabriel Valley. The deadline for submittal of bids was 11 a .m. on
May 2, 2012 .
Shortly after the publication of the bid notice, staff was notified by two vendors that the
deadline to purchase new vehicles directly from Chevrolet had passed so only vehicles
currently in inventory were available until the 2013 models were released . As such, the
City issued an addendum requesting bidders to comply with the bid specifications as
closely as possible and to indicate on the Bid Form any exceptions (i.e., paint color,
trailer hitch, etc.).
One bid was received at the City Clerk's office by the stated deadline . The bid was
from Camino Real Chevrolet in Monterey Park in the amount of $40,040 .78 . The bid
complies with all specifications except for the paint color. The bid specified summit
white paint and the available vehicle is silver.
Since the vehicle bid complies with all specifications other than the color, and because
the cost for 2013 vehicles are unknown at this time, staff recommends the City Council
approve the purchase of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid truck from Camino
Real Chevrolet.
CONCLUSION:
The City Council is requested to accept the bid submitted by Camino Real Chevrolet in
the amount of $40,040 .78 for the purchase of one 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Hybrid tuck and approve the related purchase order.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City Council as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2011-12 City Budget approved an
appropriation of $40,000 for this purpose. A budget amendment in the amount of $40.78
is requ ired and will be included in the 41h quarter budget amendments .
