HomeMy Public PortalAbout20180118 - Hopkinton Library Trustees - Meeting MinutesHopkinton Board of Library Trustees Minutes of January 18, 2018 meeting The Hopkinton Board of Library Trustees met at the Public Library on January 18, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 7:05p.m. Mike McNamara, Susan Porter, June Harris, Jessica King and Library Director Heather Backman were present. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. The December meeting minutes were unanimously approved. Agenda items including the introduction of new library Adult Services Librarian Jessi McCarthy, and the revised Computer Use policy were both tabled until the February meeting. Heather presented her monthly Director’s Report. Work on the new building is continuing, with fixes to various glitches being addressed. Heather listed impressive use statistics for the new library. Staff reviews are progressing, and interviews are being held for a Circulation Substitute. Community connections are increasing, with reading groups, book clubs, and other programs for all ages either up and running, or being planned. Town Annual Report Narratives are due on February 2, 2018. The Trustee Chair presented the Library Trustee Narrative, which was unanimously approved, and will be forwarded to the Town Manager this week. Heather is working on the Library Narrative, and will send it as soon as it is finished. The major new business is the new Strategic Plan, due in October 2018. Heather is forming an advisory group of town department members, various committee members, and residents. She requested that one or two library trustees be included. Mike McNamara and June Harris volunteered. And Heather accepted. The group will review data and consolidate it, and it will then be presented to the Trustee Board for approval before being added to the official Strategic Report. Susan Porter and Heather Backman attended the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library meeting on January 10, 2018, with the intention of strengthening the Trustee and Friends relationship. The Trustees will be more visible at, and help with Friends events, starting with our presence at the Mini Golf event on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2nd and 3rd. Christine Clifford has been named the Friends liaison to the Board of Trustees. Susan will invite her to our February meeting and supply here with the schedule of Trustee meetings. No further business was introduced, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.
