2021 as submitted. All members voted "aye"and the motion passed.
• EXISTING COLLECTION AND MAINTENANCE
• Owl wood carving at Library: Messages have been left for John, the wood
carver. No response to date.
• PUBLIC ART PROJECTS
Laidlaw Our Confluence: Staff reported that the sculpture has been installed at the
corner of 2nd and Lenora Streets. The artists are now working to close the project out
by installing a title plaque and providing a maintenance manual for the project.
Committee members suggested issuing
Westover Mill Whistle: Staff reported that the sculpture footings are scheduled to be
poured next week and that Amy Westover will be on site during the second week of
August to measure the footing pattern for final install.
MDSD Hometown Arts Bus Shelters: Artwork by Middle School students have been
installed at bus shelters by Gravity Sports and Aspen Market. The bus shelter near
Alpine Village by high school students and the bus shelter near Shore Lodge by 2nd
grade students will be installed in the coming week or so.
• CAPACITY AND PROMOTION
$1000 Fundraising Goal /Special Event: Karla proposed criteria for selection of the
fundraising special event: goal of generating $1000, feasible within capacity of group,
and should be a fun thing that we would enjoy. Nellie suggested that the event
should be mission driven—promote art within the community and have a local focus.
Staff suggested that criteria include compensation for any participating artists. Nellie
feels like we should capitalize on what we have accomplished (i.e. an arts event
surrounding the first blow of the Mill Whistle). Susan suggested an art event involving
wood as a tie to the Mill Whistle project, perhaps a demonstration and auction of
wood carvings, etc. Dawn suggested that we do a raffle or auction of one item
associated with the Mill Whistle. An event like "Design and Dessert" done with Susan
Madacsi was considered and supported. Inquiring about availability of artist, space
such as the Glass House, and ticket numbers are next steps. Dawn will inquire about
availably of the Glass House. Staff will inquire about artist availability.
