HomeMy Public PortalAbout10-061RESOLUTION NO. 10 -061 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE'S CONCERN OVER HALLMARK CARD NO. GFA 116 -2 WHEREAS, graduation is a time of joy, excitement, pride and accomplishment for young adults everywhere; and WHEREAS, Hallmark Cards, Inc. has been the cornerstone of the American greeting card industry by producing greeting cards since 1910 with responsible, thoughtful messages; and WHEREAS, Hallmark Cards, Inc. has created a musical graduation card with the identification number GFA 116 -2 in which members of the NAACP find offensive to African American women; and WHEREAS, Hallmark Cards, Inc. has a wholesome reputation and the public expects sensitivity and responsibility from Hallmark Cards, Inc.; and WHEREAS, Hallmark Cards, Inc. have acknowledged the sensitivity to card no. GFA - 116-2 and thus have taken measures to remove the card from circulation; and WHEREAS, the City Council encourages Hallmark Cards, Inc. have all cards with this identification number removed from store shelves within the soonest possible time frame; and WHEREAS, the City of Carson appreciates and embraces the diversity of our residents and shows respect for members of all ethnic backgrounds; and NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the city of Carson, California, does hereby adopt this resolution strongly encouraging Hallmark Cards, Inc. to continue their efforts in removing this card from circulation.
