firemens fund- That a clubhouse be maintained for the use of the
firemen.
The Assessment Committee reported that it had turned down a request
for the operation of a pony corral.
The Finance Committee reported receipt and disbursements for the
months of May and June, receipts 3 24778.82, disbursements $ 8173.70.
The Public Works Committee reported that ditches had been cleaned-
around Estill Station, on Third Avenue on down to 17th street -
along the Strand and at the turntable- numerous loads of cinders
were hauled and placed in rear of bulkhead, 9th street, Fresh Air
Home, and near 18th street- a fence was built at the end of the
parkvv7ay at the head of 18th street.
The Police Committee reporrted that business places on the island
were closed et 2 a.m.- it had been reported to him that some autos
were going inibb the parking space without paying for the privilege
through the using of the ticket that had been sold to the original
purchaser, who after when leaving the parking area would give kis
ticket to someone else who in turn would use it to go into the
parking area- that Officer Moore would discontinue collecting the
rents at the fishing camp.
There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the

Mayor,
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.,
August 7th, 1936.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m.,
and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen
Cann, Solomon, Sharpley, Logan, Righton and Lovell, and also
by A committee from the local chapter of the American Red Cross,
composed of J.H.Winkers, H.M.Dunn, R.L.Schley, P.S.Moses,Mrs.
J.Mended and George Haines.
+fir. Winkers, as Chairman of the Committee, requested that the
Red Cross be permitted to work with the Town in the interest
of providing better life saving facilities at the island. They
would send any number of expert volunteer life guards when re-
quested,lbhe requirement being that the young men be provided
witti meals and ho.zsing, a list of the anticipated equippent
needed to properly patrol the beach was read, after some dis-
cussion the committee was informed that a committee would be
appointed to go into the matter, the committtee was excused. -
The Mayor appointed Henry M.Buckley, Councilman Righton and
himself a committee to handle the matter.
r. . . Coatsworth petioned that he be permitted to operate
a loud speaker on the island on Tybee Day and on Labor Day,
permission granted for two days only.
The minmtes of the meetings of June 4th and July 3rd were read
and approved.

The Fire Committee -- The siren had been changed to its new
location and 'was working. -
The Health committee -- 'o communicable disease on island
extra mules.recently purchased have done much good - Sanitary
Inspectors house is in good shape - several buildings constructed
by Yr. C.J.Richards at Lovell Station have showers that flow
onto the groznd, a .dry well is not used, the water seems to drain
off satisractoryly - the °ethod of collecting dog licenses is
unfair as it is not cb&dmted until July and after.
The Police Committee.- There is,_:a feeling among Some ofthe
cancessiin sthnds that the closing hours are not being properly
enforced - a policeman to patrol the island dmring the night
will be put on duty, this to be one of the officers at present
employed by the Town.
The Pubic Works Committee4 Have finished working 2nd avenue
fron Tilton-to 1st 'street, will get distributor from City to
lay the asphalt — have placed some cinders and stone on 18th
Street,- approach to Butler Avenue - filled a hole on 19th
Street about 5 feet deep 7 cutting weeds on the island.
It was moved and seconded and passed that taxes on improvements
for 1936 that were burned at Lo7,,ell Station on May 7th, 1936,
be refunded.
Jritten agreements for furnishing gasoline and oil for the
year 1936 were submit'ed by the Colonial Oil Co., and the
mpire Oil Co., they were referred to Councilman Logan.
