Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga,
September 4th, 1936.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m.,
and was attended by Acting Mayor W.G.Logan and Councilmen_
Righton, Lovell, Sharpley and Solomon
Also Mr. T.E.Walker
The minutes of the meeting. of August 7th, were read and approved.
Mr. Walker petitioned that he be relieved from paying the balance
due on the 1936 licenses of R.W.Harper, amounting to 67.50, and
which he guaranteed payment, as Mr. Harper closed his business
during July and left the island, after having paid $ 92.50. Et.
Harper was excused and on motion made and seconded and passed
Mr. Walker was relieved of paying 33.75 of the balance due.
It was moved and seconded and passed that 1936 taxes of Julia4
D.Kelly, be reduced ; 5.00 and that this amount be refunded to
hire.
The Atlantic Mutual Fire InsurancewC mpany ownertuof the Amfico
Club, petitaned that the walk that taken up on 19th street from
B utlex Avenue to the Strand, be rep &raced. It was moved and sec-
onded and passed that this be done provided that they furnished
the materials.
It was moved and seconded and passed that alley # 1 running
from Chatham Avenue to the Inlet be upended and paved with
oyster shell 20 feet wide.
It was moved and seconded and passed that in condideration of
the Trades and Labor Assembly holding their annual celebration
at Savannah Beach on Labor Day, that 4 50.00 be appropriated
for their use.
It was moved and seconded and passed that 4 - 22 gallon foamite
type hand fire extinguishers, and 6 foamite recharges, be pur-
chased for thefire department.
With the view of reducing taxes for the year 1937 Council dis-
cussed the matter and it was decided that data be compiled show-
ing the assessed valuations on property from 1924 to 1936.
Council noted with regret the death of Mr. Percy Sugden, Town
Surveyor and on motion made and seconded and passed the follow-
ing resolution was adopted;

RESOLUTION,
WHEREAS, by the death of the late Percy
Sugden, Surveyor of the municipality for
dluitg%atnumber of years, the Town of Savannah
Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, has lost a
valued friend and public servant interested,.
at all times, in the best interests of the
Town.
NOW THERE i ORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and
Councilmen of the Town of Saiannah Beach,Tybee
Island, Georgia, in meeting assembled, that our
sorrow be expressed, as well as our sympathy,
to his family.
RESOLVED FURTHER that a copy of this resolution
be spread upon the minutes and a copy sent to,
the family of Mr. Sugden.

Committe Reports;
Police; Month was very active - had two investigations
noted that a police - officer had been discharged`` after the
committee had recommending retaining him - the Chairman would
like to know what authority the Committee has.
Health ; A water report during the month showed that
colon bacilli had appeared from samples otd water taken at
C #)the cottage of Mrs. Mary T.Garity, -two specimens were sent
to Atlanta for examination - ditching during the month was
proceeding normally - the garbage dump was being properly
maintained - the sanitary inspector's house was showing
p
well. (#) This was a faulty spigot at this place and aid not
affect the sanitary conditeon of the Towns' general supply.
Assessments ; No report.
Fire'; Recornmends that buses be made to carry fire
extinguishers - Chief Young was awayodue to the illness of
his father, asst chief Brunson was in charge.
Public Works; Second Avenue from Tilton Avenue to 1'iret
street was paved with asphalt - a bad wash -out occurred on
Butler. Avenue at Firt - Street due to the high 'tides and winds,
was necessary to have additional convicts sent to island to,
erect emergency bulwarks in an effort to arrest the inroads'`„
of the surf - the WPA have started putting in piling for t}te,,
buck -head along the high water mark on Butler Avenue from • ,'
First street to Tilton Avenue.- convicts cutting grass during''
month.
