Health ; The general health condition of the island is good - in some places weeds are tall and should be cut - the reduction in the number of mosquits is noted - recent tests have shown that the condition of the drinking water is excellent. Assessment,; Licenses and New Buildings; All of business li- censes collected except a small balance which is being grad- ually reduced. Police; Department is now reduced to the off season require- ments - have had the police car overhauled and a set of new tires put on - Recommends that the parking area between 14th and 15th street be blocked off during the winter months to keep traffic off, but permit the passage on the western side of the strand to remain open. A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.r., in the offices of Hitch, Denmark and Lovett, and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Lovell, Sharpley, Logan, Cann and Solomon. Also present was Messrs. B.O.Sprague, E.H.Abrahams and A.B.Lovett. • It was moved and seconded and passed that the following res- olution be adopted: RESOLUTION. RESOLVED that an emergency condition exists at Savannah Beach because of high tides and continued beach erosion. At some points the water has come entirely over the sand dunes and inundated the territory immediately in their rear. That unless immediate steps are taken to correct this conditionit is entirely possibld that untold damage to property will result and that the effectiveness of the W.P.A. Beach Erosion Project will be lost. RBSOIDV�.ED FURTHER that the Honorable Walter F. George and the Honorable Richard B. Russell, jr., United States Sen- ators; and the Honorable Hugh Peterson, jr., Representative, be apprited.of the situation and urgently requested to secure Federal assistance. 1 i 1 The Mayor appointed a committee consisting of himself, and Councilmen Sharpley, Cann and Donald G.Nichols to call on Colonel Fowler, the District Engineer to request his coopera- tion and assistance toward getting additional federal aid for beach protection. Capt Ross requested,that in connection with the several small strips . of land on the right of way formerly used by the CRR, desired bylthe federal authorities for the ereetion of a fence, that Council authorize the writing of a letter to the Commanding Officer, Fort Screven that it would be willing to deed the re- quired land, to the War Department. Capt Ross was Excused. Council after discussion agreed to turn over the land and appointed Councilman,Sharpley a committee to handle the matter. The minute of the meetings of OCtober 2nd and 5th were read and approved. The Mayor. repotted that his committee had called upon Colonel .Fowler and that he agreed to co- operate in securing the necessary protection needed along the beach front, Also that new groins were being erected at 8th,10th and 14th streets along the strand, and that 5 5 feet of bulkhead had been erected at Lovell Station. A complaint was received that the oyster house erected on the property Jf Mr. Sam Blumenthal was a' nuisance and was encroaching on. the rights of citizens.
