December 11, 1936., The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m., and was attenied by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Cann, Logan, Solomon, Sharpley, Lovell and Righton. Also Mr. George •Hunt. Mr. Hunt representing the Union Society, presented a petition requesting the grading and levelling of the Bethesda Tract from 3rd to 4th Streets, the paving of these streets with shell or cinders, and that the bulk -head erected at Lovell Station be continued on to a part of this property. Mr. Hunt was excused after which the ratter was refered to the Public Works Committee to look into it and report back at the next meeting of Council.' The minutes of the meeting of Nov. 20,1936, were read and adopted. Councilman Logan reported that the matter of furnishing a house for Mr Davis, the head of the convict carp, had been handled with the County Commissioners and had been informed that it was not their desire to have the Town furnish .a cottage for Mr. Davis.` It was moved and seconded and passed that # 25.00 be donated to. the Community Christmas Tree Fund of Savannah Beach. It was :roved and seconded and passed that $ 10.00 be donated to the Parent - Teachers association of Sava nah Beach. A petition was presented by Mr. C.J.Richards to installa water system and lay pipe on his property and across Second Avenue for the purpose of.furnishing. water to his buildings. Petition granted provided that no damage will be done to property. Itc.watzmaved and seconded and passed that 12 spark plugs and 4 fire extinguisher brackets,be purchased for the fire depar ment. The matter of building the new Toll and Police Station Al the Strand was discussed and Council was informed that the WPA would cooperate as far as possible, Councilman Logan will handle with Mr. Nichols of the WPA, The Town Attorney was requested the ascer- tain if the building could be legally built on the Strand. Councilman Logan informed Council that Colonel Ganoe, the Commandant, at Fort Screven had'stated that he was anxious to cooperate with Council any time that he Gould and to hesitate to call on him. It was moved and seconded and passed that effective December 1st,. 1936, the salary of the Chief of Police be raised to 15.00 per month, he to furnish his quarters; that the salary of Police Officer W.T.Veronee be raised to 100.00 per month, he to furnish his quarters; that the salary of Sanitary Inspector and Mechanic Thomas Reed be raised to 3 100.00 per month. It was moved and seconded and passed that effective December let, 1936, W.W.Edwards be appointed Chief of Police to succeed to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Chief A.L.Hildreth, subject \-to the pleasure of Council. It was moved and seconded and passed Per. W.J.Bryan be permitted to occupy the cottage formerly used by exChief Hildreth, this as part of his compensation, and that this building be repaired and reconditioned,; There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the c611 of the yor.
