HomeMy Public PortalAbout2016.105 (05-17-16)RESOLUTION NO.2016.105 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE $20,000 FROM THE UNAPPROPRIATED PROP. C FUND TO CARLIN AVENUE AND THORSON AVENUE FLASHING BEACON STOP SIGNS UPGRADE WHEREAS, the intersection of Carlin Avenue and Thorson Avenue currently uses Standard Stop signs to control traffic movements. The stop signs are located at the parkway area which can be difficult to see by motorists due to the width of the street; and WHEREAS, the intersection of Carlin Avenue and Thorson Avenue is heavily used by students who attend Mark Twain Elementary School and adjacent businesses; and WHEREAS, the Lynwood Trolley stops at the North West corner of Carlin Avenue and Thorson Avenue to pick up and drop off passengers and students and since Prop. C funding is restricted to transit or transit - supporting expenditures, this specific intersection would be eligible for Prop C funding; and WHEREAS, engineering staff has requested from MTA an appropriation of funds in the amount of $20,000 to cover the cost of construction; and WHEREAS, on May 4, 2016, the City received a confirmation from MTA to use Prop C funds for the Three Way Stop signs upgrade in the amount of $20,000; and WHEREAS, based on the funding approval from MTA, staff has retained Kohler and Son Electric Inc. to complete the installation of the flashing beacons, underground conduits and other electrical components using Prop. C fund. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY FIND, PROCLAIM, ORDER, AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Lynwood authorizes the City Manager to appropriate funds from the unappropriated Prop. C fund to Carlin Avenue and Thorson Avenue intersection, as follows; From Unappropriated Prop. C Fund $20,000 To Carlin Avenue/Thorson Avenue $20,000 Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. 1 Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this City Council Resolution.
