January 18th, 1937.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m.
and was attended by Mayor.Bright, who presided, and Councilmen
Righton,Solomon, Lovell.
Also Messrs. Lafayette McLaws and J.A.Taylor.
Mr. McLaws spoke of the erosion condition at Lovell Station
and requested that some form of protection be )laced along
the shore line in front of his property and adjacent prop -
erties. ir. McLaws was assured that everything possible
was being done to protect his and other property all along
the beach where it was necessary, after which he was ex-
cused.
The minutes of 4(1-meeting of-December 11, 1936 were read
and adopted.
The matter af_'._ laying out and grading the streets in the
proposed subdivision off the Union Society was discussed
and it was hovedr:d that the Chairman of the Public Works
committee be authorized to proceed with the work and to
cooperate wide Mr. George 'W.Hunt- of the Union Society,
this was'seconded and the motion passed.
The annual report of the fire department was submitted my
Chief Young, for the period ending December 31st, 1936,
and showed that 17 alarms were answered; amount of buildings
and contents involved totaled p 26,650.00; fire losses of
buildings and contents totaled p.18,657.50; the condition
of the etiOpment is good; recommendation is made that the
Town purchase a new fire engine; it was moved and seconded
and passed that thankkbe extended to Chief Young for the
excellent report submitted by-him. It was decided that no
action would be taken on any new ,new equipment at this time.
The new plans for the proposed, Toll & Police Station were
presented showing the new changes and were referred to
Councilmen Logan.
The matter of the bad condition existing at the fishing
camp on the Inlet was discussed and the Mayor was appointed
a committee to call on Mr. Houlihan to ascertain if a
solution of the problem could be arrived at.
