HILLSBOROUGH TREE BOARD
December 12, 2012 9:00 A.M.
Members present: Chair Pascale Mittendorf, Phil Ray, Karen MacAulay, Liz Waters, Mary Jewell,
Ken Ostrand and Pip Merrick (ex officio)
Members absent: Greg Yavelak, Andrea Lewis
Others present: Ken Hines, Town of Hillsborough representative
The meeting began with changes to the Tree Board agenda. Under New Business, the planting of trees at
the dog park at Gold Park was added to the agenda. The revised agenda was approved. The Tree Board
minutes from the November 14, 2012 meeting were approved.
Under Old Business, the landscaping plan at the Old Courthouse was discussed. No agreement was
reached about the species of trees to be planted. The Board requested tree selection for the court house be
placed on the January agenda.
The purchase of trees for the Tourism Grant Project and new trees to be planted by the Tree Board will
occur in December. Phil Ray will pick up the trees from Worthington Farms and at Taylor’s Nursery. The
trees will be planted on December 28th at 10:00 a.m. with a rain day of December 29 at 9:00 a.m.
Different species of trees for planters along West King St. were deliberated. Phil Ray has a CD with photos
from planters located in Burlington. Mary Jewel talked with staff from the City of Burlington about the
planters. Tree Board members will research appropriate species of trees for planters to discuss at the
January meeting.
The Bald Cypress newspaper article has not been completed. Pascale will request Andrea Lewis to write
the report.
Under New Business, the Board considered the planting of trees at the dog park located in Gold Park. Phil
Ray informed the members trees cannot be planted within the utility right -of-way. Members will do a site
visit to determine if there are any acceptable locations to plant trees near the dog park.
