February 5th, 1937.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m., and
was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen
Sharpley, Logan, Righton, Solomon and Lovell and Town Attorney
McIntire. Also Commander T.S.Klinger.
The minutes of the meeting of Januaryxl8th were read and adopted.
Commander Malinger addressed the meeting relative to the need
of a Coast Guard Station on the island, the reasons for which
wereishowp'vetyiclearly. It was moved and seconded and parsed
that Council go on record as favoring the establishment of a
Coast Guard Life Saving Station at Savannah Beach, and that
all of the civic bodies and other interests be requested to
cooperate, also that the address of Commander Klinger be pre-
pared in booklet form and be distributed to the various organ -..
izations and others interested in raving such a station at
Savannah Beach.. Commander Klinger was thanked for his interest
and efforts in the matter.
It was moved and seconded and passed that the building formerly
used by W.J.Bryan (the old CRR ticket office) be converted into
a public library and that WPA assistance be requested to fur-
nish books and also a librarian.
Through the generousity of Mrs Adeline Graham 2 lots in Venetian
Terrace and also 500.00 were donated to the town for the pur-
pose of erecting abuilding to house the cicvic activities of
the community, this fund to be increased from other sources
so that a suitable building will be erected. It was moved and
seconded and passed that Mrs Grahams' offer be accepted and
that tanks be extended to her for her very generous offer, also
that a committee be appointed to handle the matter of ascec- t
taining the type of building. desired and the proposed 8
same and also to endeavor to an allocation from the WPA for the
work.
The action of Council in authorizing the construction of a
police and toll station on 16th st and the Strand,E #szihotion
made, moved and seconded and passed reconsidered and the action
of Council was rescinded.
It was moved and seconded and passed that two drinking fountains
be installed, one at a convenient place on the Fourteenth Street
parking space boardwalk and one on the board-v-alk south of Tybrisa
pavillion, to be ready for use by the new fiscal year.
The matter of the continued maintainenee of the rest room was
discudsed C Solomon and Supt Bryan was appointed a
committeetthe assi bility of the town maintaining same, and
aslo what repairs,ect would be needed and report back to Council.
The Mayor inquired as to the report that a gang of convicts
had spent some time working around Mr. Bryans' house, Councilman
Logan informed that they had been moving the garage,ect., but
that the work had been finished.

A request from Mrs. }1l.134 the,schoolteachur, requesting that
an additional room be added and that new screen wire be put up
was referIred to the 3Jarc1 of Education. The Mayor was instructed
to suggest that they may maintain the the building occupied as
the schoolteachers house.
There.being no further business Council adjourn, subject to

The regular meeting of Council was held today at 4 :00 P. M. and
was adtended by Chairman of Council Logan, who presided and
Councilmen Cann, Sharpley, Righton and Lovell. Also Chief Young
and a Mr., K.e-n 4y.,

The matter of purchasing a new fire engine was discussed and some
estimates were submitted after which a committee was appointed
consisting of Councilmen Lovell, as Chairman, and Sharpley and
Righton to investigate and ascertain what the total cost would be
and report to the Finance Committee.
The bill of material for repairing the Toll Station on 16th Street
amounting to approximately $120.00 was referred to the Finance Com-
mittee.
Mrs. H: S. Richards of the committee in charge of the Town Library
requested that electric service be maintained in the building at
expense of the Town. Request refused at this time.
The Chairman of the Public Works Committee was authorized to pave
12th Streit from 3rd Avenue westward, a width of 20 feet with cut
back asph.lt .
There was some discussion about grading and opening streets through
private property and leveling lots. It was decided that this be
stopped and that no grading on private property be done until the
owner is ready to build.
It was decided to permit the salary of Supt. of Construction, Bryan,
to remain as it is $162.00 per month for the remainder of the fiscal
year.
Councilman Logan informed Council that the space between Butler
Avenue and the Bulkhead from 1st Street north had been beautified
and converted into a small park and helped to improve the appearance
of that section of the island.

and his orficers of Fort Screven be extended thanks for the splendid
