M. and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided and Councilmen Lovell, Righton, Sharpley, Cann, Solomon and Logan and Town Attorney E. P. McIntyre. The report of the Assessment Committee showing, the assessments for the year May 1st, 193?, was read as follows: Real Estates Land $ 1,122,888.00 Improvements 862,501.00 Total $ 1,995,389.00 It was moved and seconded and passed that the report of the Assessment Committee be adopted. RESOLUTION RESOLVED that the report of the Committee on Assessments of val- uations of real estate and improvements thereon in Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, for the year commencing May 1st, 193 ?, be received and the valuation as thereon assessed be adopted as the basis of assessment for taxation of real estate and improvements in said Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, for the year ending April 30th, 1938. SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., in meeting assembled that the attached budget, which is hereby made a part thereof, as prepared by the finance Committee which the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., for the fiscal year, commencing May 1st, 1937, be and the same is hereby adopted. SECTION 2. B, it further ordained that all Ordinances or pl its of Ordinances thereof in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. It was movd and seconded that an Ordinance for the taxation of real II and ?i?rson 1 property and also to provide for the rate of licenses for doing _busi ass in the Town for the year commencing May 1st, 1937, be adopted: an by the unanimous agreement of Council was placed on second reading an passed. TAX ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE' for the taxation of real and personal property in the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., for the fiscal year commencing May lst, 1937, and to provide for the rate of licenses for doing business in said Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., for the fiscal year ending April 30th, 1938, and for other purposes. SECTION 1. Be it Ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., in Council assembled and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same that the rate of taxation Uppn real estate and personal Property within the limits of the said Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., for the fiscal year commencing May 1st, 1937, shall be ONE AND ONE - QUARTER PER CENT upon the assessed or returned value of same, the value of real estate and improvements to be 'ascertained from the returnes of the Committee on Assessments of said Mayor and Councilmen and the valuation of personal property to be ascer- tained from the returns of the owners thereof in pursuance of the scheme and plan contained in sections One, Two, Three and Pour of the Ordinance to provide for the assessment of taxable property in the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., and the mode of valuing such property for taxa- tion and to carry into effect the provisions of the Act of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia approved August 19, 1922, Section 21, passed in Council assembled October 13, 1922, and it is further ordained that if any person or persons should refuse or neglect to pay the tax re- quired by this Ordinance within THIRTY (30) DAYS after same shall become due, or shall fail or refuse to pay any DOUBLE TAX assessed as above provided within THIRTY (30) DAYS after same shall become due, the Clerk of Council as Ex- officio Treasurer of said Town shall issue execution therefore and the further sum of ONE DOLLAR ($1.00) for costs, the vhief of Police and Ex- officio Tax Collector shall proceed with such execution in the same manner as now provided by the law in such cases of execution lodged with the Sheriff of Chatham County. SECTION 2. Be it further ordained that any property, including new improvements upon completion and installation, will become taxable after Ltay 1, 1937, and shall he subject to taxation from the first day of the month immediately succeeding the time when the same becomes tax- able and the owner or owners shall pay such proportion of the tax required by this Ordinance as the time left for the taxable year shall bear to the whole.E cept that any improvement completed after July 1st shall shall not be taxed for the remainder of the fiscal year through April SECTION 3. And every person who shall pay his taxes within .ullYt' NI��� (15) DAYS after same shall be -come due shall be entitled to a deduction of TWENTY (20) PER -CENT on account thereof, and the Clerk of Council and Ex- officio Treasurer of said Town is hereby authorized to make such de- duction upon receipt of tax. The provision of this section shall not apply to licenses for doing business in said Town, the rate for such licenses being NET. SECTION 4. The licenses for doing business in the ,Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga., for the fiscal year ending April 30, 1938, payable on or before commencing of business, shall be as follows: 1 1 1 RRCTION 5. In the event any business or calling not specifically mentioned iri, the above list set forth shall be established in the 4own of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. , the Mayor and Councilmen reserve the right to establish a license fee for same by resolution, which fee is to be of equal dignity as the license specifically mentioned in the above section, provided . however that such licenses shall not be less than TWO DOLLARS -FIFTY CENTS and not more than the sum of ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. SECTION 6. This Ordinance shall be subject to alterations or repeal in whole or in part at any time during the fiscal year begining May 1, 1937, should it be deemed advisable and no such amendment or re- p eal -shall be construed to impair the right of Council to assess or levy tax for the whole of such year whenever made. SECTION 7. It was moved and seconded and passed that the report of the Finance Committee be adopted. A letter was read from the Citizens Bank and Trust Company informing the Town that they had reduced the interest rate on the Town's indebt- edness to the bank from seven percent to five percent, effective -ay 1st, 1937. A letter was read from Mr. A. M. Gunter protesting against the removal Iof some p almettok trees and the digging of holes on his property. The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by Mayor Bright, who pre_.ided, and Councilmen Logan, Cann, Solomon and Righton and Town Attorney Lclntire. The minutes of the meeting of April 2nd were read and adopted, the minutes of tie meeting of April 27th were read and adopted except as to that portion entitled " An Ordinance to regulate the sub- division of lands ", ect., which was through error written into the minutes, this Ordinance has not been adopted. It was moved and seconded and passed that the position of Lieutenant of Police be created and that W.T.Veronee be elected to this office at the same salary now being paid him, subject to the pleasure of the Mayor and Councilmen. It was moved and seconded and passed that J.O. Leaverette be a3pointed Town Surveyor to fill the unexpired term the late Mr. Percy Sugden.
