July 2nd, 1937.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m.
and was a ttended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen
Logan, Sharpley, Solomon, Lovell, Cann.
Joe Smith,jr., petitioned for a refund of license paid by him
of 3 100.00. The matter was referred to Councilman Sharpley
with power to act.
The building occupied by Thomas Reed was reported in bad con-
dition, particularly the roof which leaks very badly, Mr. z .eed
was instructed to get up a list of material necessary to reps •
same, so that they could be ordered.
It was moved, seconded and passed that one welding outfit be
purchased to cost not over ;1;
Mr.Casper Wiseman, attorney for Mrs Mary T.DeBorde petitioned
for the allowance ,Df the full discounts on taxes for the years
1931 to 1937. It was moved, seconded and passed that if the
taxes were paid by July•15th, a discount of 10% would be allowed.
Mr. E.S.Stoddard,attorney for -Sohn Eldholson' `. i= etitioned
for the allowance of full discounts on taxes due for the years
1933 to 1937. It was moved, seconded and passed that if the
taxes were paid by July 15th, a discount of 10% would be allowed.
Mr. Reese requested permission to use a map of the town in
connection with some advertising that he contemplated that
would be of benefit to the town without cost. Permission granted.
The Supervisor of Life Guards was instructedt1 use his discretioh
in providing suitable life saving facilities along the beach
where bathers go in the surf.
Council was informed of the inconvenience to the residents and
visitors to the island of inadequate ,f:arking of streets and
the numbadng 9g houses. A committee was appointed consisting
Councilman d '84erk Buckley to go into the matter and work
out a plan and submit same to Council for approval.
