The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Lovell, Solomon and Lovell. The minutes of the meetings of May 7th,June 8th,June 21st,July 2nd, , August 8th were read and adopted. It was moved.,seconded and passed that the motion passed June 21st, in which no consideration would be given to requests for allowing discounts on back taxes, be reconsidered and that petitions for allowing of discount. 2, on back taxes be handled separately in each case. Councilmen Solomon, as Chairman, and Lovell were appointed a com- mittee to handle the matter of getting new concessions and amuse- ments on the island. Chairman of Police Lovell reported that the Police Department would be reduced after Labor Day and that the motorcycle officer would be kept on through September. 4W There being no further business Council adjourned subject to th- call of t Mayor. ;ler Council. A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m. in the Council chambers of the City Hall in Savannah, and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen Logan, Sharpley, Lovell and Cann. Also by Messrs. F.E.Joanston, D.G. Nichols, Henry Grady, R.B.Lovett, Charles Ellis, G.A.Gordon, E.H.Abrahans, J.J.Rauers, E.7j.Reed, J.G.Stovall and Col Fowler. The purpose if the meeting was to devise ways and mean, as quickly as possible to erect protective barriers on the beach in an effort to stop the erosion along the whOle beach front and par- ticularly in the area from Seventh to Ele enth Streets; there was considerable discussion of the matter after which it was decided that temporary work would done where needed at once and that an effort would be made to get a WPA assistance for more permanent protection. A committeewas appointed consisting of Councilmen Logan, Sharpley and Yr. G.A.Gordon to handle the tem- porary work. A committee was also appointed to develpope a new and more permanent project with WPA assistance, consisting of Councelmen Logan, Sharpley, Cann and Hr. G.A.Gordon.
