October lst, 1937.
A regular meeting of Council was held to -clay at 4 :00 p.m.
and was attended by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Council-
men Logan, Cann, Lovell, Sharpley and Solomon.
The minutes of the meetings of September 3rd and 13th were
read and. approved.
A communication from the Lions Club was read requesting the
Town to endorse the movement to have the bridge over the
Wilmington River at Thunderbolt raised. It was moved, seconded
and passed that the Town go on record as endorsing t: -e movement.
Councilman Righton called attention to the apparent excessive
amouht of gasoline used and recommended that one marl have the
key to the gasoline storage tank, also that dailey reports be .
made by the several departments as to their activities; also
that telephone calls were made too often.
Councilman- -Lighton sated that he was informed that convicts
—were doing work,an private property he was under the impression
that this had been stopped.
The Ma? r, informing Council asto the condition of the .Leach
which was damaged considerably at the South end due to the
hirghtide s and northeasterly winds, w at the shoreline from
Lovell Station to Fifteenth Street holding up good but that
from 10th Street south erosion was noticed and between 17th
and 19th Streets there was quite a bit of damage due to the
bulkhead and several groins giving away and being washed out,
he stated that an effort will be made to get `PA aid. It was
moved,seconded and passed tkat the Mayor be authorized to
appint the necessary committees needed to endeavor to get
' federal aid.
Chairman Sharpley of the License Committee recommended that
the 1937 license of T.S.Chu & Co., be reduced from 50.00
to $ 25.00; of the So1ms Hotel that it be reduced 4 25.00,
Tt was moved, seconded and passed that the recommendations as
made be approved.

A Special meeting of Council was held to -day at 12:00 noon,
in Mayor Brights office, and asattended by him, also by
councilmen Cann, Sharpley, Logan, Solomon and : .H.Abrahams
and A.B.Lovett.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the damage done to
the beach,and ways and means for getting assistance to repair
and protect t$le shoreline.
r. Abrahams informed Council that he had been informed that
the President had a fund available '-under_,t the Flood Control
Act that could be used by him at his discretion, Mr. Abrahms
suggested that representative citizens committee be appointed
to go to Washington to see tge President and that Senators
Russell and George and Congressman Petersen be requested to
arrange an appointment with him so that the committee can
present the matter and show how serious the damage is and
regaest that he render aid under the above mentioned act or
any other authority that he may have. It was moved and seconded
and passed that this be done and the Mayor was authorized to
appoint a committee to handle the matter. He appointed .r.
4,brahams as Chairman, Mr. Lovett, as Vice- Chairman, and Ir.
_udley, as Secretary.
Br. Abrahams called a meeting of all the property owners
of Savannah each and others interested, to be held at the
...otel Savannah on Friday October 8th, at 4:00 p.m.
Th re being no further business Council adjourned subject to

and was attended,by Mayor Bright, who presided, and Councilmen

McIntire;.
The minutes of the m,etings of October lst, and 7th, were
read and approved.
A`.communica,tion-_from =LTr..Charles?. N.Elliotti LDitector, of
the D:vision of State Parks, was read, this also enclosed a
report recommending that the State appropriate funds to
match a V'P4 project, for the protection of the beach.
Councilman Solomon reported that he had been in touch with
several concession operators with a view to having them come
to Savannah Bgelch for the season.
