DETERMINING THE AMOUNT TO BE RAISED BY
TAXATION FOR SCHOOL PURPOSE FOR THE
1998-1999 SCHOOL YEAR
WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Borough of Carteret (the "Board")
presented to voters at the annual school election held on Tuesday April 21, 1998
questions concerning the levy requirements for the Board of Education for General
Fund in the amount of $16,443,213.00; and
WHEREAS, the voters at said election, rejected the General fund; and
WHEREAS, the Board transmitted the Budget to the Borough Council of the
Borough of Carteret (the "Council") on Thursday, April 29, 1998 pursuant to
NJ.SA 18A:22-37; and
WHEREAS, the Council thoroughly reviewed the Budget and related information
as presented by the Board; and
WHEREAS, a joint meeting of the Council and the Board was held to discuss the
Budget as submitted by the Board; and
WHEREAS, after careful deliberation and joint discussion of the information
relative to the School District Budget the Council has determined that the full amount
of General Funds proposed by the Board is necessary to provide for the thorough and
efficient education of Carteret's school children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Borough Council of the
Borough of Carteret, in the County of Middlesex, and the State of New Jersey, that
the amount of local district tax levy requirements for the Board of Education be
$16,443,213.00, said amount to be raised is consideration by the Council to be
sufficient to provide a thorough and efficient education through the system of local
schools within the District; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Borough Council of the Borough of Carteret
that the Municipal Clerk is directed to certify, by May 19, 1998 to the Middlesex
County Board of Taxation, the Middlesex County Superintendent of Schools, the
Borough of Carteret Assessors, the Division of Local Finance of the Department of
Treasury, State of New Jersey and the Board of Education of the Borough of
Carteret, that the amount of $16,443,213.00 is necessary to be raised by taxation for
1998-1999 in said Borough of Carteret for the General Fund (local tax levy), which
amount shall be included in taxes to be raised, levied and collected in said municipality
for General Fund of the schools; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there be raised, approved and collected for the
School District of the Borough of Carteret during the year 1998, the following items:
January 1, 1998 to June 30, 1998 $8,221,606.50
July 1, 1998 to December 31, 1998 $8,221,606.50
Total Amount to be raised by Taxation $16,443,213.00

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as of May 14, 1998, said aggregate sum of
$16,443,213.00 be certified immediately by the Municipal Clerk to the Middlesex
County Board of Taxation, the Board of Education of the School District of the
Borough of Carteret, the County Superintendent of Schools, the Assessors and Tax
Collector of the Borough.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall be maintained on file in
the office of the Municipal Clerk and that copies of this resolution shall be forwarded
by the Municipal Clerk to the person and /or departments herein named for
certification purposes.
