A'special meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m. in Savannah office, and was attended by Mayor BrigLt, who presided, and Councilmen Solomon, Lovell, Logan, Cann and Righton and Town Attorney McIntire. Mrs. Adaline Graham requested that, if the Town did not contem- plate erecting a community building on the two lots ( 122 & 123, Ward 4,) that she gave on March 3rd, 1937, that they be returned to her. It was moved and seconded and passed that the two lots be conveyed back to ,ors. Graham. The Mayor informed Council that the efforts to get federal and state assistance for beach protection had met with no success. The Mayor appointed Councilmen Sharpley, Logan, Lovell and Sol- anon a committee to map out a programme showing the cost of re- pairing the parking spaces from 16th to 18th streets, and re- porting back to Council at the next meeting. The bill of Mr. Perry Brannan for $ 250.00 for legal services rendered in the case of Mrs. Harley L.Thomas was presented for payment, and after some dIscussion,it was moved that the bill be paid, this was seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Righton called attention tb the bad condition of some of the ditches and also the dry underbrush over the island and requested that something be done to correct it. The regilar meeting of Council was held to -day at 4:00 p.m.. in Savannah office, and was ateade.3 by Mayor, who presided, and Councilmen Logan, Sharpley,Lovell, Soloton, Cann and Righton. Also T.B.McCarroll. The minutes of the meetings of December 6th and 14th were read and approved. Yr. McCarroll presented plans for a building that held A.P,Solomon, ;rd, proposesto erect on 6th street and 4th avenue as agathering place for negros and requested that he be given permission to sell beverages,ect., it was moved and seconded and passed that permission be denied. The annual report of Chief Young of the Fire Dept was read, which showed that the fire losses for the, year ending were 285.00, called attention to several defective flues that should be corrected and recommended that the volunteer firemen be paid for their services. It was m#xgg and seconded and passed that thanks be extended to Chief 6111 ihe, members of the department for the spelndid showing madz during the year and also that the matter of paying the men would be taken up at the proper time by the Budget Committee. 1
