Subject: FW: Tybee Bike Trail Meeting Minutes
John,
Mike Gresham and Alethia Zadach with Georgia Power met with Joe, Danny and I to discuss the trail
today. They said that Georgia Power does not have funds in its Transmission Division to fund the
additional improvements for its trucks to travel on the trail when they are doing maintenance on
Georgia Power poles and lines. Georgia Power does not believe they will be using the easement that
much because they have done a brand new upgrade to the lines this past year.
Georgia Power representatives suggested that we go more narrow trail (4' or 6') rather than the wider
trail (8') if the city paved the trail to avoid damage to the trail by their trucks. We told them that we are
limited to the narrowness by GDOT and ASHTO requirements. Another suggestion was to continue to
explore a smooth gravel alternative over asphalt or concrete. We told them that you were contacting
GDOT to see if this alternative would meet the ADA requirements for the project.
Please let me know if you will be able to attend the Infrastructure Committee meeting this Thursday at 5
pm to give a short update on the project. I plan on including the attached meeting minutes in the packet
for the members.
Thanks, Diane
