HomeMy Public PortalAboutCouncil on Aging Board -- 2022-09-15 MinutesMinutes of Brewster Council on Aging Advisory Board Meeting y September 15, 2022 Present: Denise Rego, Director, Co-chairs Andrea Nevins and Sharon Tennstedt, Annie Rapaport (COA Program Coordinator), Cindy Bingham (SB Liaison), Steve Holmes, Honey Pivirotto (Fin Com Liaison), Jay Green, Penny Holeman, Laura Usher Absent: Jill Beardsley Meeting called to order and Governors' Orders read by Andrea Nevins at 1:00 pm Documents and exhibits: Minutes of August 18, 2022, Meeting Agenda, Directors' Report, Action Plan Implementation FY23, Board Members expiration dates Minutes of August 18, 2022 were unanimously approved pending corrections. c 7 DIRECTORS' REPORT: - See Report COA is•now open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Cindy Thatcher has been hired as a Full Time Outreach Representative and Mary King has been hired Part Time with Outreach Food Distribution at COA parking lot with CERT providing help went well. Program Reports I - All programs are running well except for Fitness (two individuals showed up and she needs five) and Mah Jongg. The next session for each has enough people so they will continue. Water Color class and Memoir Writing are going well. Programs are planned with Mike Gradone of the Recreation Council, such as Senior Skating at the Orleans Rink, hikes in the spring and a golf session. Worki" ng on aspects of If I Live " to be 100. For Veterans D1y there will be a field trip to the National Cemetery in Bourne. Annie is working with Brenda at Serenity to set up movie showings and other programs there. Needs Assessment`' 3 - Sharon has suo mitted a grant to the Community Compact to pay for the UMass survey. Denise has contacted UMass to ensure that they can start in Novembe,. i a Grants: Sharon met with the CPC Committee relative to the bench funding request on behalf of the COA, At the meeting, other departments were requesting or notifying the CPC of other large requests coming in the fall. An example is the Recreation Committee asking for funding for a new irrigation system at the Freemans Way Ball Field. In view of this there might be a funding problem. Sharon plans to submit the request in December for spring funding. Cindy noted that the Captains' Golf Course is going to need a new irrigation system and that perhaps the two projects could be put together for better pricing. Denise will discuss at the next department heads meeting., - Committee Reports - Health: The Board of Health has added two new members. Denise mentioned that there is to be a Drive Thru Flu Vaccine Clinic at our Lady of the Cape Church on October 13tH - Recreation Committee: The Recreation committee member of the Long Pond Committee has been changed from non-voting to voting membership. All Tennis Courts will be fitted with Pickle Ball barriers. - The staffing fora new Assistant Director is progressing well. - Vision Planning Committee: The final draft is completed and will be presented at Public Hearings in October and at the Town Meeting in Nov"ember. Bay Parcel Planning Committee, Our list of suggested one-time events was given to Mike Gradone. While acknowledged as very good ideas, he indicated that that staff and resource constraints don't allow for them to be offered this year. The pool will bd opened next year. It is noted that a group of the COA Board toured the Serenity apartments this morning and our Tour Guide, Brenda, did `a wonderful job of showing the various apartments and answering our questions.
