ORDINANCE NO. _ I �✓�AN ORDINANCE ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, ESTABLISHING NAMES FOR
UNNAMED ALLEYS AND ADOPTING "ALLEY WA Y' AS THE SUFFIX FOR EXISTING NAMED
ALLEYS IN THE DOWNTOWN AND SOUTHSIDE (OLD MUNICHBURG) AREAS.
WHEREAS, staff of the Police Department and Department of Community Development
recommend the naming of alleys as being in the interest of the City in order to
provide an efficient way to provide street addresses, route law enforcement and
emergency services and otherwise locate businesses, residences and other
properties within the City; and
WHEREAS, some properties were previously addressed with duplicate and "rear" addresses,
causing confusion that should be re-addressed; and
WHEREAS, the Commission on Historic Preservation has suggested narYies; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Chapter 25, which establishes a standard for street naming and
property addressing, the City did publish a notice of name change in the Jefferson
City fast Tribune as required by the Code of the City of Jefferson;
WHEREAS, the City did hold a public hearing on the name change as provided in the Code of
the City of Jefferson
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFF=ERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The heretofore unnamed and named alleys in the Downtown/Central area
listed below and shown on Attachment A shall bear names as follows:
(1) Parsons A41ev_Way: Intermittent east-west alley located between State and Capitol
Avenue, beginning at Madison Street and ending at Lafayette Street;
(2) Commercial—Aventq-,-alley Way: Intermittent east-west alley located between West
Main/Capitol Avenue and High Street, beginning at Clay Street and ending at Ash
Street;
(3) Wall_S"et-Alley Way. Intermittent east-wost alley located between High Street
and McCarty Street; beginning at Clay Street and ending at Vetter Lane;
(4) Handley trfie-Alley Way: Intermittent east-west alley located between McCarty
Street and Miller Street; beginning at Broadway Street and ending at Vetter Lane;
Section 2. The heretofore unnamed and named alleys in the Southside / Old
Munichburg area listed below and shown in Attachment A shall bear the narnes as follows:
(1) Schroeder Ai+eyy Way. East-west alley located between Whitton Expressway and
Elm Street, beginning at Wanut and ending at Washingtun Streets;
(2) Cedar Stteet IMft Way: Intermittent east-west alley located between Elm and
Dunklin streets; beginning at Walnut Street and ending at Locust Street;
(3) Tanner fklley Way East-west alley located between Dunklin and Ashley, beginning
at Walnut Street and ending at Jackson Street;;

(4) East-west alley located between Ashley Street and Atchison
Street; beginning at U.S. Highway 54 and ending at Jackson Street;

Streets, east of Washington and south of proposed Hess Alley;

Streets, west of Jefferson and south of proposed Hess Alley;

Streets; beginning at Mulberry and ending at Washington Streets.
Section 3. Upon the passage and approval of this ordinance, the City Clerk shall file a
certified copy thereof with the Recorder of Deeds of Cole County, Missouri.
S,�ction 4. Upon the passage and approval of this ordinance, the Director of the
Department of Community Development shall cause signs to be erected in appropriate locations
bearing the approved names.
S@ction 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect 90 days from and after the
date of its passage and approval.
