AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING CHAPTER 8
OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, TO PROVIDE FOR THE
LICENSING OF ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI)
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 8 of the Code of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, is hereby
amended by changing subparagraphs H, 1, and L of Section 8-3 to read as follows, by
inserting a new paragraph R and by renumbering all subsequent paragraphs following the
new paragraph R, beginning with the old paragraph R:
Sec, 8-3. Amendments to National Electrical Code 1996.
The following additions,insertions,deletions and changes in the National Electrical
Code 1996 and contained in Ordinance No. 12751 shall be set out below:

H. Licenses - No person, firm or corporation shall engage in the business of
electrical work in the City of Jefferson unless licensed as an electrical

electrical work shall be or have in its employ at least one (1)journeyman
electrician. The business of electrical work shall mean the supplying of
labor and materials for the installation, alteration or repair of electrical
systems. No person, firm or corporation shall cause any electrical work to
be done, altered or repaired by an apprentice electrician unless the
apprentice electrician works directly tinder the supervision of a licensed
journeyman electrician. An Apprentice Electrician Certificate shall
authorize the grantee to perform electrical work only when under the
immediate supervision of ajourneyman electrician holding an unsuspended
license. The ratio of apprentices to journeyman while on the job shall not
exceed one(1)apprentice to one (I)journeyman. Electrical maintenance
personnel shall be qualified to maintain electrical installations. Any
maintenance shall be confined to the repair of existing branch circuits,
fixtures,apparatus or equipment connected thereto,and shall include
the relocation of existing branch circuits and the switching and de
energizing of existing facilities for safety purposes,contained and used
upon the premises or building owned,occupied or otherwise controlled
by the person, firm, or corporation by whom the maintenance
electrician is regularly employed. The maintenance electrician's work
shall not include the installation,alteration,or replacement of service
equipment or any feeder to any center or centers of service equipment.
1. Exemptions: No license or permit is required for the performance
of the following dwelling unit electrical work:

1. Fees for License - A fee of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) is required to
tr: obtain an electrical contractor's license. This license is renewable annually

electrician's license, journeyman electrician's license, or electricalt'

examination and the necessary payment of ten dollars($10.00)is paid to the
Electrical inspector. Said license shall be a permanent license subject only
to the revocation section hereof.
• L. Licenses, Suspension or Revocation-The Board may suspend or revoke the 4.
license of any apprentice, journeyman, maintenance, or contractor
' electrician when charges are preferred against them by the Electrical
Inspector,and the Board finds that the person charged is incompetent or had
willfully violated the provisions of this code, Before any action is taken by f'
the Board,the person charged slialI be given at least ten (10)days notice of
the tirne and lace of a formal hearing on said charges and the pet-son

'P charged shal l be apprized of the nature of the charges. The person charged
shall be given the opportunity to appear, in person or with an attorney of his ;
choice, in order that they be heard, and they shall have the burden of
showing cause why the license should not be suspended or revoked. The
. Board shall render its decision within five(5)days. The decision shall be
` final. No appeal shal I be al lowed therefrom. The decision of the Board may
}. permit the person charged to continue their trade and dismiss the charge;or
the Board may suspend the license of the person charged for such period as �' �

.R Board may permanently revoke the license of the person charged.
R. Maintenance Electrician-Examination for Maintenance Electrician- !
Application forexamination for maintenance electrician licenseshall be
made in writing to the Electrical Inspector who shall refer the applicant `
to the Board. The application shall state the name of the applicant,the
;g home address and telephone number. Upon receipt of the written
;a application, the Board shall reply within twenty (20) days giving the
�{ applicant a place and time for the examination. The type of
examination required will be determined by the Board of Electrical
Examiners. The fee for this examination and license shall be ten dollars
($10.00).
Applicants for this examination shall be qualified to perform work in
maintaining electrical installations only upon the premises controlled by the person,
