' AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AUTHORIZING A
REFERENDUM ON IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX OF THREE PERCENT(3%)ON HOTEL
AND MOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOUF�:, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Subject to voter approval as set out in Section 2 the Council hereby
imposes a license tax as follows:
Sec. 17-63.Levy of Tax.

s : In addition to the license fees levied on hotels and motels pursuant to Article IV of Chapter '
17 there is hereby levied upon every person engaged in the business of operating and carrying on the

. •# business of the operation of a hotel or motel,an additional license tax in an amount equal to three
percent(3%)of gross daily rental receipts derived from transient guests for sleeping accommodations. €

Section 2. The City Council of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, hereby submits to the {`
' voters of the City of Jefferson at an election to be held on August 4, 1998, this proposal to i
tax hotels ai>>,d motels to promote conventions and visitors in the City. ~x
The ballot of submission shall contain, but is not limiters to, the following language:

Shall the City of Jefferson impose a license tax of three percent(3%) z
of the gross daily rental receipt upon sleeping accommodations of
motels and hotels to promote conventions and visitors for a period
of April 1, 1999 to March 31, 2009.

Section 3. . The tax imposed herein shall automatically terminate without further ,
action'of the Council on March 31, 200 9, r =3

Section 4. This ordinance shall not become effective unless a majority of the
j qualified voters of the City voting in the August 4, 1998 election approve the levy of the
license tax set forth in this ordinance. If a majority of such voters approve the levy, this
