AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING SECTION 17-32
(EVIDENCE OF WORKERS'COMPENSATION INSURANCE PRIOR TO LICENSE ISSUANCE)OF
1 CHAPTER 17 (LICENSES, TAXATION AND MISCELUkNEOUS BUSINESS REGULATIQLS)
PERTAINING TO REQUIREMENT OF EVIDENCE OF WORKERS'COMPENSATION INSURANCE
FOR BUSINESS PRIOR TO ISSUANCE OF BUSINESS LICENSE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Section 17-32 (Evidence of workers' comoerisation insurance prior to license I
issuance)of Chapter 17 (Licenses Taxation and Miscellaneous Business Regulations)of the'Code

of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 17-3 2.Evidence of workers'compensation insurance prior to license issuance.
No license required under the provisions of this section shall be issued by the financY department
to any person contractor in the construction industry until such pea°sen applicant produces a copy of
certificate of insurance for workers compensation coverage 41he-a ilireant ler tie-Fiee�rsp- -reed tai
eaver •>sHRty-and . or an affidavit signed by the app?icant attesting that the �
contractor is exempt. It is further made a violation of this ordinance to provide fraudulent information to !
J the department.
Section 2. Nothing in this ordinance shall create a duty on the part of the City to investigate
any certificate of insurance or affidavit filed pursuant to this section.
Section 3. Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed to create or constitute a liability to
or cause of action against the City in regard to the issuance or non-issuance of any license for failure
to provide evidence of workers' compensation coverage.
Section 4. The City's Finance Department is directed to take appropriate actions, including
altering the license application form to require contractors :o present evidence of workers'
compensation insurance. r
Section 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its
passage and approval, or August 28, 1998, whichever is later.
