HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD11180 BILL NO. 88-161 SPONSORED BY COUNCILMAN HAAKE ORDINANCE NO. /1 1 FL0 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, CLOSING A PORTION OF AN EAST-WEST ALLEY RUNNING BETWEEN MADISON STREET AND MONROE STREET TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND DESIGNATING IT AS A PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Council of the City of Jefferson hereby declares it to be in the best interest of the City for planning purposes and to avoid conflicts between vehicular traffic and pedestrians to close a portion of the twenty-foot east-west alley running between Madison Street and Monroe Street, more particularly described as follows: Beginning a the northwest corner of Inlot 100; thence easterly approximately 136. 60 feet to the westerly right of way line of a 10 foot north-south alley; thence northerly along the northerly extension of the westerly right of way line of said 10 foot alley 20 feet more or less to the southerly line of Inlot 95; thence westerly along the southerly line of Inlots 95 and 94 to the southwest corner of Inlot 94 ; thence southerly along the extension of the easterly right of way line of Madison Street 20 feet more or less to the point of beginning. Section 2 . Upon the closing of the portion of the alley as provided herein, all vehicular traffic shall be prohibited over the above described portion of the alley subject to the general penalty provisions found in the Code of the City of Jefferson, Missouri. Section 3 . The closing of the portion of the alley as described is related to construction of the new state parking garage facility at Monroe and State Streets and shall become effective upon receipt of notice from the State sixty days in advance of the official closing. The State shall bear the burden of closing the portion of the alley and making such improvements as are necessary to convert it to a pedestrian walkway. At the time of the closing, curbs, gates or other barriers to traffic shall be erected at each end of the closed area. Section 4 . Nothing in this ordinance shall be deemed to prohibit any person from driving a vehicle upon the portion of the alley designated to be closed until such time as the sixty days notice has been given. Section 5. Upon receipt of the sixty day notice from the State a copy of such shall be attached to this ordinance. Section 6.
