HomeMy Public PortalAbout20150615_CRCminutes.pdf Community Resource Committee Meeting Minutes: June 15, 2015 MEMBERS PRESENT Kathryn Propst, Freda Rutherford, Bill O’Brien, Paul Wolff, Bud Matlock, David Turner, Tim Arnold , Ashley Workman GUEST(S) PRESENT Dale Williams, Bill Garbett, Jason Buelterman CALL TO ORDER Kathryn calls the meeting to order at 4:00pm May 18, 2015 MINUTES Freda makes a motion to approve, Tim seconds. The motion passes unanimously. ANNOUNCEMENTS Tim invited Nick Defley and Christina Gibson to come speak on behalf of recycle initiative programs and non-smoking programs. Tim is going to visit Terra Cycle in NJ. Paul announces 57 contracts to Solarize program and 584 sight requests. Ashley invited Bryan Nakiewicz to come speak about Solar Roadways at the next meeting. Kathryn announces the Carrying Capacity Study was approved for a grant. REPORTS AND DISCUSSIONS Kathryn inquires about our responsibilities with the Mayor. Jason reports that a survey will be given at an upcoming community meeting that will categorize environmental concerns of citizens and businesses. and suggests a presentation to council to request funding as Tybee marketing in order to provide reusable bags to businesses and citizens. Bill suggests a 6 month aluminum recycle pilot program as a way to show profit potential to the city or to donate to non-profits. Discussion of bin configurations, signage, restrictive lids and regular bin checks. Kathryn announces Coastal Incentive grant money will be available in October. Freda explains that Key West based their growth management plan on evacuation time; Tybee will need to look at the road, water & sewer capacities and other factors that could limit growth. Kathryn requests that Courtney and Ed be considered to help with the Master Plan since they helped write the grant request and it will serve as a state wide model. Bill Garbett recommends to go above minimum requirements to make sure it meets our needs. Kathryn suggests changing water bill to gallons for more accurate assessment of water use. David reports the system for monitoring police car fuel is not being used but monitoring should be done in order to see savings on new police vehicles. Jason advises action items to make a motion with specific requests such as invest in a project for the good of the city and community. NEW BUSINESS Go through Memorial Park study to find the best use of funds. Go through priorities to create action items. ADJOURN Meeting adjourned at 5:17
