AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING CHAPTER 26 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW ARTICLE WHICH SHALL BE ENTITLED, TRAINING STANDARDS. WHEREAS, the level of training of the members of the Jefferson City ' Police Department is critical to the public's best interest and to the safety and welfare of the individual officers; and WHEREAS, authority exists in Chapter 590 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri for the establishment of minimum training standards by local units of government; and WHEREAS, the City of Jefferson, has determined that it is in its best interest to establish minimum training standards in excess of those mandated by State law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 26 of the .Code of the City of Jefferson, Missouri is hereby amended by the addition of a new article which shall be entitled Training Standards, and shall read as follows: ARTICLE IV TRAINING STANDARDS Sec. 26-135. Purpose. � .. The purpose of this article is to establish standards for training of police officers for the purpose of improving service provided by police officers within the City of Jefferson, including �.. minimum standards of physical, mental and moral fitness. Sec. 26-136. Certification. a Police officers employed by the City shall be required to complete a basic training course consisting of a minimum of six hundred (600) hours of instruction as approved by the Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety for purposes of certification. Reserve offices shall be required to complete a basic training course consisting of a minimum of one hundred twenty (120) hours of instruction as approved by the Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety for purposes of certification.
