AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , AMENDING THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON BY DELETING PORTIONS OF SECTION 1
AND ALL OF SECTION 14(c) OF ARTICLE i OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 9509
PERTAINING TO DEFINITIONS AND IMPOUNDMENT OF ANIMALS, AND
ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF NEW SECTIONS RELATING TO THE SAME
SUBJECT MATTER.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Article I, Section 1 of Ordinance Number 9509 is
amended by amending the definitions as follow:
Cat. Any member of the feline (genus felis) family over four
months of age.
Dog. Any member of the canine (genus Canis) family over four
months of age.
Kitten. Any member of the feline (genus felis) family under four
months of age.
Pup. Any member of the canine (genus canis) family under four
months of age.
Section 2. Article I, Section 14(c) of Ordinance Number 9509 is
hereby &eTet—T and a new Section 14(c) is enacted in lieu thereof, to
read as follows:
(c) Any dog, pup, cat or kitten that is impounded and not
redeemed within seventy-two (72) hours after notice thereof is
given to the owner shall be placed up for adoption.
Section 3. Article I, Section 14 of Ordinance Number 9509 is
hereby amendeZI by adding a new subsection (d) , which shall read as
follows:
(d) In the event that an owner of any dog, pup, cat or kitten
picked up at-large cannot be determined, said dog, pup, cat or
kitten shall be held for seven (7) days after impoundment if
not redeemed or adopted, may be euthanized by the Director or
released to any person upon payment of the adoption fee and
the execution of an affidavit that all necessary steps will be
taken to comply with the provisions of this chapter within
twenty-four hours.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after tT a date of its passage and approval.
