Councilman Mayer moved that a bill of supplies needed for tie beach protection, requested by W. Nichols, and not to cost over 4200.00 be purchased, Councilman Farrell seconded and t$e motion passed unanamuu sly. A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 10:00 a.m., in the Council Chade r, and was attended by Mayor McMillan. who pa- sided, and Councilmen, Farrell, Mayer, Haar, May and Yr. Chas. Ingaesby, Donald G.Nichols, F.M.LeHardy, Major Wallace. The meeting was called for the following; Purchasing 150,000 lbs. of steel for beach protection. Purchasing a bill of material of lumber for building forms for concrete work. Bids were opened for the steel from Steel Products Co. and Tenn. Coal, Iron & RR. CO., Councilman Haar,moved that the offer of the Steel Products Co, of 43,355.18 fob cars, Savh. be acepeted, they being the lowest bidders, Councilman Payer seconded and the motiona passed unanamously. Couuncilman Haar moved that the Highsmith Lumber Co. be warded the contract for the bill of material of lumber to construct forms for concrete work, for the sum of 4522.80 fob,Cavh Beach, they being the lowest bidders, Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. here being n. further business Council adjourned subject to the all of the t4> or . The regular meeting of Council was held to -bight at 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chdmer, and as attended by Mayor McMillan, who presided, and Councilman May, Farrell, Sant, Mayer, Haar and Kreitzer. 1 1 145 A delegation from the Electrical Dealers inc:Savannah consisting of Norton Frierson, D.B.McCracken, were present,also Mr. M.R. Young, to discuss the eledtric code. The minutes of the meetings of August 1st, two meetings on the 4th, 8th, llth, 27th, and September 5th, 12th, 16th, 20th, and 26th were read and approved. Monthly reports from the various committees were read. Councilman Haar moved that the trucks be inspected in Savannah to ascertain if they are working as efficiently as they should, Councilman gayer seconded and the motion passed unnanamously. A letter was read from the Town Attorney giving his oponion that the present Board could abrogate any agreement existing hithcrvL the Board of Education relative to furnishing quarters for Mrs. Willis, the school- teacher, ouncilman Mayer moved .twat effective November 1st, 1938, Mrs. Willis pay $15.00 per month as rent for the building now occupied by her or give it up, Councilman Farrell seconded and in the voting, those voting "YES "; Farrell, May, Mayer, Kreitzer: voting "N0 "; Tant: not voting; Haar. Mrs. Lontayne Swann requested that she be furnished gasoline and oil for use in her car between Savannah and Tybee in con- nection with her work as a school - teacher. Councilman Farrell moved that the request be denied, Counclman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. P petition was presented signed by property owners in the vicinity of 17th and Smith road requesting that these streets be repaired. The petitioners were informed that the work would be done next summer. Councilman Tant moved that uniformd for the winter for the Police Departmernt be purchased at a cost of Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. Councilman Haar moved that 4 casings ho used on the Police Car be retreaded, provided that they are uaranteed to give 16000 miles of operation and at not over 17.50 per casing, Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unananously. Councilman Haar moved that the Mack truck and tbailer and the G . C truck and trailer be insure. for L & P D, Councilman Kreitzer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. Councilman Mayer moved that 10 per -cent discounts be allowed on taxes due by J.J.Harmon, Councilman Farrell seconded and the motion passed unanamously. Councilman Haar moved that on the bill of F.M.Dunlevy for 3400.00 for drawing plans for the Town Hall that $100.00 be paid now and the balance when the plans are accepted and the work commences, Councilman Farrell seconded and the motion passed unanamously. Councilman Haar moved that A.P.Solofon,3rd, be given until Mal 1, 1939 to pay the balance of $150.00 due on 1937 license, Councilman Farrell seconded and the motion passed unanamously. 146 Councilman Mayer moved that $5.00 be paid to Mrs. T.D.Harris for work on election day July llth, Councilman Haar seconded and the nition passed unanamously. Councilman Tant moved that all taxes unpaid through the year 1936 be advertised and sold for taxes, Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. Counculman Haar moved that $50.00 be donated to the Public Library for the purchase if new books, and also that the Board be thanked for permitting the use of the stove in the Town office, Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed, those voting "YES "; Farrell, Tant, Haar, May: voting "TOR; Kreitzer. A petition signed by residents and property owners in the vicinity of Campbell Street requesting fire protection, was presented,CC°ouncilman Kreitzer moved that the matter be re- ferred to the Fire and Insurance Committee to investigate the need for and also the cost of same, Councilman Mayer seconded and the motion passed unanamously. A request was made that Pine Street from Maple to Campbell be opened. The Matter was referred to the Streets and Lanes Committee. The matter of having an oystermroast to inaugurate the start of the WP$ beach protection project was discussed and on motion of Councilman Haar that an oyster be given and that the same should notmcost over $50.00, Councilman Mayer seconded and the inotionapassed unanamously. The Mayor appointed the following committees to handle; Arrangemenents: Farrell, Mayer;; Programe Haar, Kreitzer. The date was set for October 15th.
