HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD10357 0 111111W I we , w M BILL NO. �� " YL SPONSORED BY COUNCILMAN ORDINANCE NO. _10 3 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A SENIOR CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMISSION, ESTABLISHING MEMBERSHIP THEREOF, AND PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT AND TERMS OF MEMBERS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. There is hereby established a Senior Citizen Advisory Commission. Section 2 . Purpose of Commission. The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission shall serve the following purposes: 1. To provide the opportunity to senior citizens for input into local affairs in areas which the local government has some interest or influence. 2 . To facilitate better communication between local agencies meeting in conjunction with the Commission. 3 . To provide suggestions for solving special problems encountered by senior citizens within the community. 4 . To achieve coordination of local activities and services offered within the Jefferson City area for senior citizens. Section 3. Membership of Commission. The Senior Citizen Advisory Commission shall consist of ten members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Five members shall initially be appointed for two year terms with the other five members being appointed for a one year term. Thereafter, all members shall serve two year terms. Any vacancies in the Commission shall be filled by appointment in like manner for the unexpired portion of the term. All members shall continue to serve until their successors shall have been appointed and qualified. In making the appointments, care should be taken that the general community is represented as well as the group dwelling units. Section 4 . Ex Officio Members. ThF; mayor shall appoint one Councilmember as an ex officio memlier of the Commission. Representatives of the office of City Administrator, Parks and Recreation Department, Housing Autnority, and Transportation Department shall also be designate' as ex officio members. Section 5. Meetings shall be held on a quarterly basis or more frequently if a special need arises. Section 6. The Commission members shall elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman for one year terms of office.
