HomeMy Public PortalAbout20151013 Bicycle Friendly Notes.docxBicycle / Pedestrian Friendly Committee Notes from October 13, 2015 meeting ATTENDEES: Sunni Brown, Bill Garbett, Diane Schleicher, Bruce Saunders, John Bennett, George Shaw, Joe Wilson, Vicki Worden and Chantel Morton Guest: Tom Sorder Ms. Brown called the meeting to order. Ms. Worden moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Mr. Garbett seconded. The minutes were approved. Old Business: Discuss the Status of Bicycle Friendly Status for Tybee Island Mr. Shaw advised that he was going through the Bicycle Friendly application. The committee went through the Bicycle Friendly application. Ms. Schleicher explained Complete Streets, looking at the whole complete streets when redoing roads. Ms. Schleicher stated that she would like to see engineering and staff look at a policy for staff to bring it to the city manager and look at the pros and cons and council will decide. The committee continued working on the Bicycle Friendly application. Ms. Brown will speak with TIMA about the Safe Routes to Schools program to, hopefully, get it signed by December. The committee stated that only Savannah and Tybee should be on our application. Mr. Shaw stated that he should have a final draft by the next meeting. Discuss the Status of the Marsh Hen Trail Ms. Schleicher stated that Thomas and Hutton is still waiting on the ecology and cultural resource reports to hear. Ms. Schleicher explained the funding is really 2017 instead of 2016. If it gets shovel ready, it could be moved up to 2016. Ms. Schleicher discussed the bridge improvements, safe route for multiple level cycles. The committee discussed colors for continuity for signage. Ms. Schleicher gave update on crosswalks. She stated that we are removing mini-islands. Ms. Brown stated that the next meeting will be at 11am on November 10 in the Public Safety Building. Mr. Garbett moved to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Bennett seconded. The meeting was adjourned.
