AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AUTHORIZING THE
CHIEF OF THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO FORM A COOPERATIVE MAJOR
CASE SQUAD WITH THE COLE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND
REGULATING THE CITY POLICE MEMBERS OF SAID SQUAD.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 24 of the City Code is hereby amended to
add one new section, section 24-9, to read as follows :
Sec. 24-9. Major case mad.
(a) The chief of police is authorized to form a major case
squad in cooperation with the Cole County Sheriff 's department.
The major case squad shall not be formed until the Cole County
Commission promulgates an order authorizing the Cole County
Sheriff to join in forming a major case squad.
(b) The major case squad shall investigate certain
Auk individual crimes within Cole County only upon the request of the
Cole County sheriff or the chief of police of the political
subdivision where the crime occurred.
( c) The City members of the major case squad shall be
designated by the chief of police and may be removed by him at
any time. At no time shall the chief of police allow the
operations of the major case squad to leave the City with
inadequate police protection.
(d) No member of the major case squad shall be considered
an employee of the City for any purpose, unless they are members
of the regular City police force.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval.
