AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING
SECTIONS 3.4 AND 3 .5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, TO PERMIT SIDEWALK SIGNS IN SPECIFIED CIRCUMSTANCES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 3.4 of the Code of the City of Jefferson,
Missouri, is hereby amended by the addition of a new subsection
to be entitled Subsection F which shall read as follows :
(f) Sidewalk signs may be permitted in the C-3 zoning district
subject to the following conditions:
( 1) The issuance of a permit pursuant to this section shall
not subject the City, its officers, agents, or
employees to any liability for personal or property
damage to any person proximately caused by the
erection, use, and maintenance of the sign for which
the permit is issued.
(2 ) As a condition of issuing the permit, the permittee
shall agree, in writing, to indemnify and hold harmless
the City, its officers, agents, or employees for any
personal or property damage to any person proximately
caused by the erection, use and maintenance of the �',i..gn
for which the permit is issued. The permittee sjaall
obtain insurance in an amount sufficient to protect the
city and shall file a certificate of insurance with the
City Clerk indicating the limits of protection and
naming the City of Jefferson, Missouri, as an
additional. insured.
( 3) Sidewalk signs shall be of A-frame design having two
(2 ) faces in opposing directions , joined at the apex,
and spaced less than 36" apart at the widest part of
the base.
(4 ) Sidewalk signs shall have a face area less than 416"
high by 216" in width, shall be constructed of wood
with the face panels no lighter than 1/2" plywood,
shall be painted, and shall not have any attached
illuminating or lighting device.
( 5) Sidewalk signs may provide a chalkboard area for
changeable display but shall not allow the temporary
attachment of paper.
® ( 6) Sidewalk signs shall be placed only in front of the
specific business advertised.
(7 ) Sidewalk signs must be positioned perpendicular to the
curb and within one foot of the outside edge of the
curb or adjacent to the face of the building.
Section 2 . Section 3.5 (a) ( 6 ) shall be amended by the
addition of the words except as provided in 3-4 (f) so that as
amended that subsection will read:
( 6) Signs extending into street areas or any other areas of
public ownership except as provided in Section 3-4 (f) ;
and except that a projecting sign no more than twelve
( 12 ) inches from the building may extend over the
public sidewalk.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval.
