Park Street McCall, ID 83638 Dear Mayor Giles, Enclosed you will find information on the benefits of providing quality early education opportunities for Idaho's children and families. As a public servant, we want to help you understand how essential quality early learning opportunities are for the development of young children, its positive effect on school readiness and literacy rates, parent engagement, and the long-term benefits to communities. Idaho is one of four states in the U.S. that does not provide state funding for early learning but there is still great work being done in Idaho to provide young children with the strong start they need to be successful in school and life. Many communities are taking it upon themselves to provide these essential services to support parents and their young children by forming Early Learning Collaboratives. These programs are locally created, community led efforts that provide early learning opportunities for children though public- private partnerships and utilizing existing resources and infrastructure. These programs are overseen by local leaders made up of local elected officials, business leaders, early childhood professionals, and parents. There are 15 Early Learning Collaboratives in Idaho currently operating with another five being created. Early Learning Collaboratives are supported in partnership with Idaho AEYC utilizing the local collaborative model to build better systems of support, invest in high-quality program services and promote the importance of investing in our state's youngest learners. In addition to supporting Early Learning Collaboratives, Idaho AEYC offers other programs that support early education such as Ready! for Kindergarten where parents are provided with the skills and resources to serve as their child's first teacher to foster essential pre-literacy, pre-math, and social emotional skills. Idaho AEYC is a resource for communities and policy makers in improving the early learning landscape in Idaho. We encourage you to learn more about the importance of early education and how you can support early learning opportunities in your community by contacting me directly or by visiting our website at www.idahoaeyc.org.
