RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF INCLUSION OE THE CARTERET PERRY
TERMINAL AND INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATON CENTER IN THE 2021
SURFACE TRANSPORTATION REAUTHORIZATION LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is located in central New Jersey, approximately 12.5 miles
from New York City; and
EREAS, a significant portion of the Borough's population commutes to the city as pail of
employment; and _
REAS, most of those commuters utilize New Jersey Transit buses to travel to and from
and
'HEREAS, recent population increases in the central Jersey region have placed significant
assures on these existing modes of transportation creating the need to provide increased access
New York City; and
IEREAS, recognizing the need to expand access to alternative transportation opportunities,
Borough of Carteret set out to develop the Carteret intermodal Transportation Center which
consist of the Carteret Ferry Terminal building and associated development inclusive of a
sing lot and a three story Ferry Terminal building which will service the ferry passengers; and
WHEREAS, the Carteret Intermodal Transportation Center will be located adjacent to other
public facilities and open space on the Borough's waterfront; and
IEREAS, the Borough of Carteret believes that the Transportation Center wilt provide new
opportunities for current residents, be a catalyst for new development and address the
naming difficulties experienced by the citizens from Middlesex, Union, northern Monmouth
Mercer Counties; and
AS, when operational, the Transportation Center will intake passengers from both
vehicles as well as New Jersey Transit buses and locally operating jitneys which will
ingestion on the state's already taxed roadways.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
express their support for the inclusion of the Carteret Ferry Terminal and Intennodal
,nation Center in the 2021 Surface Transportation Reauthorization Legislation as
as transportation studies have been conducted that demonstrate both a demand for and
to viability of the project; and
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution is forwarded to Congressman
ik Pallone, Jr., Senator Robert Menendez and Senator Corey Booker.
