As a Department of State designated BridgeUSA 0-1) visa sponsor, Intrax has partnered with
Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club for over a decade on the Summer Work Travel program, where
international university students come to the United States during their summer break to learn
about American culture and foster goodwill and understanding between their home country and
the United States. These participants offset the costs of the cultural program by working for pre -
approved host employers. To qualify as a host employer, businesses must meet Department of
State regulations, show commitment to cultural exchange, and work hard to ensure their
participants have a safe and welcoming environment both in and out of the workplace.
A major concern for all stakeholders of the BridgeUSA program is housing. Participants must
have housing secured before they can travel to the US, and host employers are responsible for
arranging appropriate housing opportunities for their participants. The shortage of appropriate
housing on Cape Cod, and Brewster in particular, is threatening to weaken the BridgeUSA
program and the diversity and multiculturalism which it brings to this community. If seasonal,
affordable housing is not available in an area, then visa sponsors will not be able to place as
many participants in that community. Participants will instead be directed to communities and
employers who have suitable housing. This will harm both the host employers in Brewster who
rely on participants to run their seasonal businesses and the thousands of visitors and residents
that depend on those businesses.
Ocean Edge, several years ago, took a proactive approach in building their own housing for their
seasonal employees, including BridgeUSA participants. Ocean Edge has a reputation for
excellence among its guests, and Intrax is confident the resort will show this same quality as it
continues to maintain its seasonal employee housing. Ocean Edge provides an enriching
experience not just for their seasonal employees but for the entire community who interact with
these driven and passionate future world -changers.
