Please bring your donations to City Hall before December 8th, and place them in the donation barrel in the lobby. Your gifts will make a difference this Christmas season! City Offices Closures City offices will be closed for the Christmas holidays on December 24th and 25th. For the New Year, City offices will be closed on January 1st. Also, parking on the island will be free beginning Thanksgiving Day and running until December 31st. Most City Hall visitors on Saturday come by to pay parking tickets, so City Hall will be closed every Saturday, starting from Thanksgiving weekend, and re-opening on January 2nd. DPW at Work DPW staff and contractors have been busy working on repairs to cross-overs, sidewalks, and 14th Street. In December, expect to see 9th Street cross-over reconstruction, continued work on curb cuts and sidewalk repairs on Highway 80, and 14th Street drainage work. Spring Tides Again This Month December 3rd will have 8.5’ high tides during morning high tide at about 8:10AM, representing some risk of flooding on Highway 80. Please don’t drive into water covering the road. It doesn’t take much water to represent serious danger! You risk not only your own person and belongings, but also you put the lives of any rescuers at risk who may have to come pull you out of flooded areas! Election Results The next City Council will again be chaired by Mayor Jason Buelterman. The winners from the November elections are: Shirley Sessions, Paul Wolff, Wanda Doyle, Kathryn Williams, Bill Garbett, and Frank Schuman. The new Council inauguration will take place in the City Hall Auditorium on January 4th. City Communications City staff are working to keep you notified of important events on the island. During an evacuation, you can contact the toll-free hotline for evacuation and return instructions at (877) 615-3277. The outdoor emergency warning sirens will provide verbal information in the event of weather, ocean, or other emergencies. The City Twitter feed provides updates on traffic, infrastructure outages, and events of general interest. Comcast Cable Public Access Channel 7 provides recorded and live coverage of Council and Planning Commission meetings as well as public presentations and events of both serious and celebratory nature. And, as always, you can visit www.cityoftybee.org for the latest news on City business, government, weather and emergency alerts, events, and more. All City web pages support immediate notification via RSS whenever there are any changes to content. Follow City announcements at twitter.com/cityoftybee. Finally, our customizable, opt-in notification system is expected to become available this month. Look for sign-up instructions on the City home page, as well as in next month’s newsletter. Have a happy and safe holiday season!
