HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD08170 i S ��F BILL 1Q0. i INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN . �rQst,mil ORDINANCE NO. f AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, PROVIDING FOR THE ASSIGNMENT AND REASSIGNMENT OF HOUSE NUMBERS FOR HOUSES AND BUILDINGS IN THE CITY, REQUIRING THE ASSIGNMENT OF A HOUSE NUMBER BEFORE THE ISSUANCE OF A BUILDING PERMIT, REQUIRING THE USE ON ALL HOUSES OR BUILDINGS OF THE NUMBER ASSIGNED OR RE- ASSIGNED, DECLARING VIOLATIONS OF THE ORDINANCE TO BE A MISDE- MEANOR, PRESCRIBING A PENAL'T'Y FOR VIOLATIONS HEREOF, AND REPEAL- ING ORDINANCE NUMBER 1279 OF THE CITY, RELATING TO THE SAME SUBJECT. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COU14CIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Official Numbers for Houses and Buildings . The Director of Public Works shall establish a numbering system for all buildings heretofore or hereafter erected in the city, or in any area hereafter to be annexed into the city, and for all vacant lots in the city in accordance with the numbering system on the grid map shown on Appendix "A" attached hereto and made a ` part of this ordinance. SECTION 2. Assignment of Official Numbers. The Director of � Public Works shall assign street numbers to houses, buildings or vacant lots in the city, upon request of the owner. (s) thereof, or whenever, in the opinion of the Director of Public Works, it would be in the public interest to do so. SECTION 3 . Reassignment of Official Numbers . To attain uniformity in -the street numbering system in all areas of the cit and to eliminate inconsistencies in the numbering of houses, J buildings and vacant lots existing in the city, and to secure conformity in the street numbering system according to the grid map, marked Appendix "A" and attached hereto, the Director of i Public Works shall reassign official numbers, after giving notice thereof as hereinafter provided. SECTION 4. Notice of Reassigned Numbers; Compliance. The Director of Public Works shall notify, in writing, the ownei: (s) or occupant (s) of any house, building or vacant lot abutting any street or alley in the city of the official street number re- assigned thereto. The notice shall be delivered in person or by Ger}� rd•� United States mail. The person to whom the written notice is addressed shall have 60 days from the date of the notice to re- number the house, building or vacant lot described or specified therein. SECTION 5. Building Permits Not To Be Issued. The Building , Commissioner shall not issue a building permit for the erection o$ any house or building requiring a street number in this city until the applicant therefor has obtained from the Director of Public Works an official street number for such house or building. I •ter � SECTION 6. Display of Official Number. The owner (s) or occupant (s) of each and every house or building in the city shall be required to place in a conspicuous location numbers which shall conform to the street number assigned or reassigned thereto, in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, and said number shall be in sharp contrast to the house or build- ing to which they are attached. if so desired, the owner or occupant may post the street number in script according to the provisions of this section. SECTION 7 . Use of Unofficial Number Prohibited. it shall be unlawful for any owner (s) or occupant (s) of any house, build- ing or vacant lot to which an official number has heretofore or shall hereafter be assigned or reassigned by the Director of Public Works to use any other number for said house, building or vacant a lot. SECTION B. It shall be unlawful for the owner (s) or occupant (s) of any house, building or vacant lot requiring a street number, for which a street number has been reassigned pursuant to the provisions of Section 3 and 4 hereof, to fail to display the official street number reassigned thereto within the time provided therefor in the written notice of reassignment. SECTION 9. Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation ,. violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed -'y guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than one ($1.00) dollar nor more than twenty-five ($25.00) for said violation, and each and every day the violation continues shall be considered a distinct and separate violation. SECTION 10. ReUeal Clause. Section 1279 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, relating to house i numbers, is, and it is hereby repealed. f SECTION 11. Effective Date.
