AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AUTHORIZING AND
DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CLERK OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A WRITTEN
pt CONTRACT WITH THE MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION 1. The Mayor and Clerk of the City are hereby
authorized and directed, for and in the name of the City, to
execute a written contract with the Missouri State Highway
Commission.
SECTION 2. Said contract shall read in words and figures
as follows:

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its passage and approval.

SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT
THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into by and between
the State Highway Commission aE Missouri, hereinafter called
"Commission", and the City of Jefferson, a. Missouri municipal
corporation, hereinafter called "Cityll
WITNESSETH:
On the 22nd day of April, 1948, the parties hereto
made and entered into a contract concerning acquisition of
right-of-way, construction, and maintenance of a portion of
state highway on a City street under an urban project desig-
nated .Project U-5 01(2) , High Street from Mulberry Street to
T Bolivar Street, Route U.S. 54 Spur, Cole County. Said con-
tract is herein sometimes referred to as the original contract.
s{ The original contract provided, among other things,
for the allocation of right-of-way and construction costs be-

tween the Federal Government, Commission, and City. Said con- ;,-

tract also provided that upon completion of the project Com-
mission would maintain the High Street viaduct structure in-
cluded in the project, including pedestrian ways thereon, the
cost of such maintenance to be deducted from future City allot-
ments of State and Federal funds. Under the terms of the con-
' , f ... trac , City assumed the responsibility of maintaining the road-
way on and off the viaduct, street cleaning, snow removal, lighting,
and utility facilities located on the project, and agreed to enact
only such ordinances covering• trdffic control, signing,
marking, as met the approval of the Commission and Public Roads

Administration (now Federal Bureau of Public Roads) .
The parties now find it to be to their mutual interests,
and insthe public interest, to modify the terms of the original
contrast with respect to maintenance and traffic control.
in consideration of the mutual promises and covenants
f herein contained, to be faithfully kept and performed by the
parties, and each of them, it is agreed as follows:
1. The Commission hereby relinquishes to City the main-

tenance and control of all that portion of state highway Within
City designated in the original contract between the parties as
Route U.S. 54, Cole County, High Street from Mulberry Street to
Bolivar Street, constructed under Project U-501(2) .
2. The City hereby accepts maintenance and control of
the portion of highway mentioned in paragraph 1, above, and will
hereafter keep, control, .and maintain such portion at City' s
cost and expense, as, and for all purposes a. part of its city
street system.
3. All provisions of the original contract shall remain
in full force and effect except as modified hereby.
4. The Commission executes this agreement pursuant to
its authority under Section 31, Article IV, Constitution of Missouri,
1945. The City executes the same pursuant to Ordinance Leo.
