HomeMy Public PortalAbout2020.11.20 Letter of Interest C Dittmer PAAC, vacancy 2020Bessie Jo Wagner, Clerk City of McCall 216 Park Street McCall ID 83636 Bwagner@mccall.id.us. 11/20/2020 Dear Ms. Wagner, I am writing to express interest in the current vacancy on the Public Art Advisory Committee. As a public-school art teacher and visual artist, I appreciate the importance of curating a public art collection that represents the interests and values of our beautiful and growing mountain community. Public art is important as it has the capacity to create a sense of community identity, bring people together and encourage economic growth for local businesses. My art background began as a painting major at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, Australia. I also have a degree in art education from Montana State University. In the 1990s I was active creating and showing my work in juried shows and art galleries in both Idaho and Michigan. Later, while raising my own children, my interest shifted more toward arts education. I have been fortunate to enjoy a career teaching people of all ages for nearly 30 years. While teaching at McCall-Donnelly High School I have maintained an ongoing relationship with the City of McCall. I often seek opportunities to involve students with public art so they can learn the value of using their abilities to enhance their community. We have created a mosaic for the public library, murals for Railroad Avenue and semi-permanent art for local bus stops. In my capacity as a founding member of the PAAC it was an honor to serve the community in the selection and placement of public artworks. If selected to fill the current vacancy, I will be pleased to serve in this capacity again. Best Regards, Cynthia Dittmer Cdittmer@mdsd.org
