Re: Park and Recreation Panel position
Dear Ms Wagner,
I am submitting my application for membership to the McCall Parks and Recreation Panel. I am
retired and have lived in McCall since July of 2019. One of the things I enjoy most about living
in McCall is the multitude of recreation opportunities we have available to us. The walking and
biking path, golfing, along with all the wonderful kids, adult, and equipment loaning programs
McCall’s Parks and Recreation provides are a treasure to this community. I would love to be
able to give back to the community by serving on this panel.
I grew up on a northern Idaho wheat farm. I graduated from the University of Idaho with a
degree in Physical Education. Following college I taught and coached in a small eastern
Washington school district. One of my focuses while teaching PE was building awareness and
enjoyment of lifetime sports. I returned to the farm where we raised our family and during that
time I served on several boards and advisory committees including the local school board for
15 years. For several years organized a summer softball league for a group of small towns in
the area.
When our three children were off to college my wife and I left the farm and moved to Boise. I
became the executive director of a farming trade association. During that time I continued to
volunteer with several non profit organizations. In 2007 my wife and I moved back to Moscow
when I was selected to be the Executive Director of the University of Idaho Alumni
Association. I retired in 2015.
I believe my knowledge and understanding of how volunteer organizations function in an
advisory capacity, coupled with my understanding of and the need for recreation programs and
how they benefit a community could benefit McCall.
