Minutes of Brewster Council on Aging Advisory Board Meeting
August 18, 2022
Present: Denise Rego, Director, Co-chairs Andrea Nevins and Sharon Tennstedt, Cindy Bingham (SB
Liaison), Steve Holmes, Honey Pivirotto (Fin Com Liaison), Annie Rapaport (COA Program Coordinator),
Jay Green, Penny Holeman
Absent: Laura Usher

Meeting called to order and Governors' Orders read by Sharon Tennstedt at 1:30 pm
Documents and exhibits: Minutes of July 21, 2022, Meeting Agenda, Directors' Report, Action Plan
Implementation FY23, Covid Relief Fund Committee Report, Select Board Strategic Plan FY 22-23
Minutes of July 21, 2022 were unanimously approved pending corrections. Sharon noted our tour of the
Sea Camps this morning and gave thanks to Richard Archer our tour guide for making it successful.
DIRECTORS' REPORT:

Food distribution held at Frederick Court will move to the COA in September from 10:30 to 12:00. This
relocation will ease the traffic problems that have happened at Frederick Court.
Program Reports
- Anne reported that five people had signed up for the Walking Program
- In September Mah Jongg classes and Fitness classes by the VNA will begin. Cindy asked if some
programs might be held at Serenity or Maplewood. Annie plans to go to both places to investigate
interest when the new Outreach members are on board.
- Interim programs for Sea Camp property use were brought up. Ideas such as Gingerbread House
making at the holidays as well as a wrapping party, a high school chorus evening, a costume event, a
Bunco party, and a garden to grow event using small plants were suggested. Ed mentioned that at
Halloween some of the cottages could be set up for a Trick or Treat party. A tour of the property with
a survey for additional ideas could also be beneficial. Sharon will put a list of ideas together for the
Sea Camp Committee.
Needs Assessment and Development Contract
- Board approved the UMass Service Agreement Contract to send to the Town Administrator
Grant Options
- Jays' subcommittee meeting has looked at the Cape Cod Foundation and are looking to submit by
December 15th
- Cindy Bingham asked if the subcommittee could look at CPC Grants for the benches. Jay will
investigate.
Committee Reports
Recreation Committee:
Motion was made to amend the rules for the #4 Tennis Court that has been striped for Pickle Ball. The
rules have been amended to First Come, First Served.
First Movie Night was successful
Freemans Way field irrigation sprinklers to be upgraded
All Summer Programs continue to run well
- Vision Action Committee:
- Presently drafting the Comprehensive Plan
- Sea Camp_
- Contract to be signed with Reed Hildebrand Co. to look at the site for comprehensive planning
- Pool will be opening next year and hope to partner with the YMCA
- Mike Gradone is proposing one-time events for the Sea Campgrounds while planning for permanent
events.
- Matters Reasonably Anticipated by the Chair:
- Sharon will draft a response the Select Board Strategic Plan.
