November 30, 1938.
Non. J.E.McMillan, Mayor,
Town of Savannah Beach,
Savannah Beach, Ga.
Dear Er. 7cMi i l an : -
Following our inspection on November 18th
with you and gther members of your Town Council of the hammock
oTned by the Tybee Beach Company, the purchase of which is pro-
posed as a site for the Convict Camp, the incerator and other
Town activities, we wish to propose the following basis upon
which this Company would be -interested in selling the hammock.
During the current year we have paid 12,386.96 on account of
accured taxes, after which there is a gross balance due by us
of 4,965.19, which represents taxes up to April 30, 1939.
As you will readily see, if the 2O% discount which has been 11
allowed for the prompt payment of taxes were allowed us on
170
this balance it ;.ould reduce this amount by $993.04 making a
net amount due of :43,972.15. At the present time we have a credit
to be applied on taxes of $500.00 resulting fuom the sale of
property for use es the Coast Guard. Wharf site. Deducting this
amount of $500.00 from.the net balance of $3,972.15 the remain-
ing balance due by us would be $3,472.15.
Although the company has previously quoted a price on this prop-
erty of 45,000.00, we would be willing to deed the property to
the Town in consideration of the cancellation of all taxes due
by us to April 30, 1939. In other words, the Tybee Beach Com-
pany is willing to sell to the Town the hammock site which con -.
sists of 61 acres, 26 acres of which are high land, for a_net
consideration of $3,472.15, provided this amount would be accepted
by the Town in full settlement of all taxes due by us.
If the Town of Savannah Beach accepts this proposal, the acquis-
ition by the Town .of this property would cancel any amount which
may be due us because of mud fill removed from the site of this
hammock by the W.P.A. as outlined in our letter of November 19.
The Tybee Beach Company has taken into consideration the great
be:7efit to the Town which: will result from your plans for the
removal of the Convict Camp and trash dump, and we are glad to
offer this proposal in order to make it possible for you and
your Council to go through with your program.
