JIBE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: �i Section 1. Amend Ordinance No. 8177, The Parking and Traffic �jCode, by deleting the present Section 10290, Abandoned or disabled l�vehicles ; removal, and inserting in lieu thereof a new Section, to be known as Section 10290, and to read as follows : v, Section 10. 290. Abandoned or disabled vehicles ; f� removal. 1. Any Police 0 icer may have any a an oned or disabled motor vehicle towed away and stored by any service station or garage licensed to do business in the City. If i the vehicle is unclaimed after a period of seventy-two (72) hours , the vehicle may be stored outside the corporate limits of the City by the service station or garage, provide ! that the storage areas are within a reasonable distance. of �I the City and the vehicle is accessible for reclaim during normal business hours . A report showing the location of the stored vehicle shall be filed by the Police Officer who 'I authorized its removal, with the Chief of Police, who shall notify the owner or any holder of a security interest `j appearing on the title of said vehicle, of the location of ! the vehicle, by certified mail. ! 2. The owner of any vehicle removed from any roadway in this city under the provisions of Subsection 1 of this ?i Section, or the holder of a security interest in the vehicle, which interest is in default, may reclaim it from the service station or garage upon proof of ownership, or valid security interest which is in default, and full payment of ' all charges for the towing and storage of the vehicle. 3 . No service station or garage towing and storing a motor vehicle under the provisions of Subsection 1 of this Section shall charge a fee in excess of ten ($10.00) dollars for towing the vehicle and one ($1. 00) dollar per day for each day the vehicle shall be stored. 4. The owner of the service station or garage towing and storing a vehicle under the provisions of Section 1 of I this Section, when the reasonable value of the motor vehicle is less than one hundred ($100.00) dollars , may sell the vehicle for salvage if it remains unclaimed for twenty (20) days . When the reasonable market value of the motor vehicle exceeds one hundred ($100.00) dollars , the vehicle may be sold at public auction, if it remains unclaimed for sixty i (60) days . Notice of the sale of a motor vehicle at public I� auction shall be posted, for at least ten (10) days prior to the sale at the service station or storage area where the vehicle is located, on the bulletin board in the City Hall i building and at the Cole County Courthouse. The notice shall include any identifying marks or numbers , date and f• place where vehicle was found, time and place of the public auction, and any accrued charges against the vehicle. Any ?! vehicle sold for salvage, or at a public auction, the j! service station or garage shall immediately notify the i� Chief of Police, in writing, of the sale of such vehicle. Ij I i� I �t i 5. The proceeds of the sale shall first be used to pay the cost of the sale, all towing and storage costs accrued against the vehicle, and the balance, if any, shall be paid into the general revenue fund of the City. 6. Neither the City, nor any officer, employee, Police Officer, nor the owner of any service station or garage, towing and storing a motor vehicle under the provisions of Subsection I of this Section, shall be responsible for the issuance of a certificate of title for any motor vehicle sold under the provisions of Subsection 4 of this Section.
