AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , AUTHORIZING
AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND CLERK OF THE CITY TO EXECUTE A
WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH THE MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION
RELATING TO TRANSFER OF MAINTENANCE ON BUSINESS ROUTE 50 , OLD
ROUTE 63 , AND A SECTION OF HIGH STREET, WHITTON EXPRESSWAY,
AND MISSOURI RIVER BRIDGE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 . The Mayor and Clerk of the City are hereby
authorized and directed, for and in the name of the City , to
execute a written agreement with the Missouri State Highway
Commission relating to transfer of maintenance on Business Route
50 , Old Route 63 , and a section of High Street , Whitton Express
way and Missouri River Bridge.
SECTION 2. Said maintenance agreement shall read in words
and figures as follows :

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its passage and approval.

Attached you will find one fully executed copy of the agreement
jbetween the City and the Commission for an exchange of mainten-
ance responsibilities. it is suggested that the effective date
of this exchan- November 1, 1972. This date will simplify
t the change in ALg procedures for the power supplied to the
' Rex Whitton Expressway and the Missouri River Bridge.

° We have notified Missouri Power and Light that we will also
except the responsibility for the power consumed by the electric
traffic signals at Missouri Boulevard, Broadway, Jefferson,
Madison, and Monroe Street intersections on the Rex Whitton
® Expressway.
if we do not hear from you within the next few days, we will
assume that these arrangements are satisfactory with the City.

Transfer of Maintenance

AGREEMENT
THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into by and between
the State Highway Commission of Missouri, hereinafter called
"Commission, " and the City of Jefferson, Missouri, a municipal
corporation, hereinafter referred to as "City, "
WITNESSETH:
The parties hereto are desirous of exchanging responsi-
bilities for maintenance on various public highways located within
the City of Jefferson. Commission is presently maintaining the
following described highways, all located within the city limits
of the City of Jefferson:
a° 1 portion of Business ROUtC 50 Ea6L, between stations
2+80 and 1+85.4 (Equation stations 31+47.9 Bk. = 31+70.0 Ah. ;
60+59.8 Bk. = 60+56.9 Ah. ; 110+88.2 Bk— = 110+87.0 Ali. ; 132+21.4 Bk. _
137+02 .3 Ah. ; 145+42.71 Bk. = 25+87.38 Ah. ) a length of 3 . 062 miles.
B. A portion of High Street from station 13+19 easterly to
station 31+67. 1, a length of 0.350 mile.
C. The portion of Old Route 63 and connection from station
0+00 on connection easterly to station 154+09. 7 Old Route 63

D. City is currently responsible for the maintenance and
operation of a lighting system located on• th? Rex Whitton Expressway
under- an agreement with Commission dated thei20th day of May, 1959,

and for the maintenance and operation of a lighting system
located on the Missouri River Bridge and south approach under
an agreement with Commission dated the 144 :. day of July, 1953.
lTaw in consideration of the mutual covenants herein
contained, to be faithfully kept and performed by the parties
hereto, it is agreed:
1. Commission hereby relinquishes to City control and
maintenance of the following described routes within City:
(a) A portion of Business Route 50 East, between stations
2+80 and 1+85.4 (Equation stations 31+47. 9 Bk. = 31+70.0 Ah. ;
60+59.8 Bk. = 60+56.9 Ah. ; 110+88.2 Bk. = 110+87 .0 Ah. ; 132+21.4 Bk. =
137+02.3 Ah..; 145+42,71 Bk. = 25+87.38 Ah. ) a length of 3.062 miles.
(b) A portion of High Street from station 13+19 easterly

(c) The portion of Old Route 63 and connection from
station O,h00 on connection easterly to station 154+09. 7 Old Route 63

All of the above-described roads are shown on the sketch
marked Exhibit A attached to and made a part hereof.
2. City hereby accepts control and maintenance of the
96foresaid roads and will hereafter keep, control and maintain the
same at City's cost and expense as and for all- purposes a part
of the City street system.

' 3. ,' City hereby relinquishes to Commission the maintenance
and operation of the lighting systems located on Route 50 and
constructed under Project U-1 (6) from near Harrison Street on
the Rex Whitton Expressway eastwardly through the interchange
of said Rex. Whitton Expressway, Route 50, with Clark Avenue an,11
the lighting system on the Missouri River Bridge and its south
approach constructed under Project U-97 (11) .
4. Commission hereby assumes responsibility for the opera-
tion and maintenance, including supplying electrical current, -of
a lighting system installed under Project U-1 (6) on Route 50
from near Harrison Street eastwardly through the interchange of
said Route 50 with Clark Avenue, including the lighting system
on the ramps at the interchange with said Route 50 with Clark
Avenue. Such operation and maintenance shall be at Commission' s
cost.
5: Commission hereby assumes the continued maintenance and
operation of the lighting system, including supplying electrical
current, on the south approach of the Missouri River Bridge and
the Missouri River Bridge constructed under Projects U-97 (11) and
Section 26 (1) , U.S. Route 54, Cole and Callaway Counties, hereto-
fore operated and maintained by City under an agreement dated
® July 14, 1953 . ' Said lighting extends from McCarty Street north-
er1y to-the riorth approach of the Missouri River Bridge. _
6. The transfer of the maintenance responsibilities contem-
plated herein shall become effective on. toe date City recieves
• writt-_:,n notice of the execution of this agreement by Commission.

instrument to be executed by their proper officials, and City
executes the same pursuant to the authority granted in City
