PRIORITY BUSINESS
A. FY24 Ston),Brook&Eddv Elementary Schools Bud,et:Discussion and Vote
Chair Jacobus explained this meeting was a follow-up to last Thursday's regular meeting of the Brewster School Committee where the
FY24 budget was presented. The budget was not voted on last Thursday because it was the determination of the school committee to
maintain the four kindergarten classrooms next year. Therefore, the budget needed to be adjusted to include the kindergarten salary.
Today, the total FY24 budget for the Stony Brook Elementary School is $4,662,100,an increase of 7.74%.
The Eddy Elementary School FY24 budget did not change, and it is a total of$4,129,710,an increase of 8.06%.
The combined total which includes the fourth kindergarten is$8,791,810; a total increase of 7.89%. Chair Jacobus noted that with the
inclusion of benefits which are lower for next year, the total increase for the elementary budget is 5.54%.
Chair Jacobus explained that there was a strong feeling by the members that kindergarten is such a foundational year and with the
children experiencing many losses to their normal learning tracks due to the COVID pandemic, especially in the social and emotional
readiness, the members felt it was not the year to put the children into a larger classroom.Another concern was the potential loss of
teaching talent.
MOTION: Ms.Mecca made a motion to approve the FY24 budget as presented today by Chair Jacobus. Ms.Lech seconded
the motion and via roll call vote, all members voted in favor; 5-0-0.
ADJOURNMENT:
MOTION: It was moved by Ms.Sherman, seconded by Ms.Lech and voted unanimouslv to adiourn at 5:08 om.
Respectfully Submitted,
