RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE BOROUGH OF CARTE RET'S PERMIT
APPLICATION TO THE US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS
RE: FERRY TERMINAL ALONG THE ARTHUR HILL
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is located in central New Jersey, approximately
12.5 miles from New York City; and
WHEREAS, a significant portion of the Borough's population commutes to the city as
part of their employment; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the need to expand access to alternative transportation
opportunities, the Borough of Carteret has applied to the US Army Corps of Engineers
for a permit to build a ferry terminal along the Arthur Kill; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to federal regulation, the Army Corps of Engineers oversees
permits issued for navigable waterways and is the lead federal agency overseeing this
vital project; and
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret believes that once established, ferry service will
provide commuters with the ability to travel directly to both the financial district and
midtown Manhattan and will provide residents of Carteret and the surrounding region
with recreational opportunities such as trips to Governor's Island, Sandy Hook, sporting
events and numerous sightseeing opportunities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council on behalf of the
25,000 residents of the Borough of Carteret do hereby express their support of the
issuance of the US Army Corps of Engineers permit reference number NAN -2020-
00040 -EBR for the Carteret Perry Terminal Project. The issuance of the US Army Corps
of Engineers permit would guarantee the ability to move the project along and clear the
way for construction of this long awaited facility; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution is forwarded to the US
Army Corps of Engineers via email to William.Bruno @usace.army.mil.
