ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, RELATIVE TO
THE ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF OCCUPANCY AND PROVIDING A
FEE SCHEDULE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Existing Buildings. Upon written request
from the owner of an existing building or structure, the build-
ing official shall issue a certificate of use and occupancy,
provided there are not violations of law or orders of the
building official pending, and it is established after inspec-
tion and investigation that the alleged use of the building
or structure has heretofore existed. This code shall not re-
quire the removal, alteration or abandonment of, or prevent
the continuance of, the use and occupancy of a lawfully exist-
ing building or structure, unless such use is deemed to en-
danger public safety and welfare.
SECTION 2. Contents of Certificate. When a building or
structure is entitled thereto, the building official shall
issue a certificate of use and occupancy within ten (10) days
after written application. The certificate shall certify com-
pliance with the provisions of this code and the purpose for
which the building or structure may be used in its several
parts. The certificate of use and occupancy shall specify the
legal description of the property, the present zoning and the
square footage of the lot and building.
SECTION 3. Fees. The fee for issuance of a Certificate
of Occupancy shall be determined as follows:
Building Size Fee
0 to 10, 000 square feet $50. 00
10,001 to 40,000 square feet $75. 00
Over 40,000 square feet $100. 00

The fee shall be paid to the office of the building official and
submitted with the written request for the issuance of the
Certificate of Occupancy.
SECTION 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take
effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval.
